Does anyone know anything about Solid Gold dog food and the other supplements they sell. I have not been in this forum for months so if I am unrecognized and forgotten, it is because it has been a long time. Was spending too much time, too late on the computer, and cut back, then lost my password and forgot my username! Thanks if anyone can shed some light on these products.

Solid Gold is a quality food. I used to feed Just A Wee Bit to my pugs a couple of years back. I got nice results, but wanted a food without barley.

Some of their formulas are too low in protein/fat for my liking. I also tried their Wolf Cub at one point and the puppy I was feeding HATED it.

I am becoming (just learning) more dog food aware, and learning a little more about labels. It seems that if you don't know how to read labels, you can be misguided. I thought that if the first ingred. was for example lamb, that the dog food was high protein, not noticing that if the next four or more ingred. are carbs in different forms, comparatively there may not be as much protein in relation to carbs as it appears. I really am new at this, but learning.
Showpug, why without barley?? Just wondering??
I recently read some info about sunflower oil being bad for dogs according to a swedish study, and also that white rice is nutritionally not useful, only brown. I've heard someone say canola oil is better. Then today someone said canola is bad for people. There are so many opinions. I also know someone who rotates dog food, not cheap brands, but better brand foods, to cover many bases.Currently my dog is on Wellness lamb and rice, but I am looking at Solid Gold info. and wondering if anyone has had any experience with it, or any knowledge about the product.

I don't like the fact that barley is a high gluten grain. High gluten grains are allergy triggers for some dogs.

There is always going to be conflicting arguments out there on what is good and what is bad. IMO, Solid Gold has a lot of propaganda in their adds. They claim time and time again that lecithin is another word for soy which is also a common allergen trigger in dog foods. What they fail to mention is that although a lot of lecithin in dog foods comes from soy not all of it does. I know for example that Canidae gets it's lecithin from egg yolk, not soy. So, if someone reads a Solid Gold add and then looks at a Canidae label and reads lecithin, they think that food contains soy and it doesn't. They also fail to mention that lecithin has many health benefits as well! I think that is crappy advertising on Solid Gold's part and it really annoys me! Sorry for the ramble, lol!

I did feed SG wolf king with a touch of barking at the moon for just under a year... Till they changed their ingredients and didn't change their bags and Cider got ill and started smelling like barn. Actually had to fight with them to get them to fess up that the ingredients were a little different.. Bugged me enough I don't touch SG now.

Ummmmm.......MP, that wasn't very good at all on solid gold's part. Your poor doggy sure knew the food was not the same. It should be that what is listed IS what is in the dog food. And showPug, I can agree with you that I would not like deceptive info/propaganda. I just received a packet of info from them, and talked with them. It was so much info coming at me and overwhelming. I am going to try to sift through the info, keeping in mind what you have shared. I sure am not going to make any quick decisions. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Pre the change, it was the food that she did the best on and I liked the best.. Way they handled it.. not so happy. Companies have 6 months to 'use up old bags' if the ingredients haven't changed much. I don't think there's a written rule saying what 'not much' is..
I still like the barking at the moon.. but we've mover to grain free orijen instead.

I feed solid gold to my dogs. Keelo and sasha are on barking at the moon because they are naturally very thin and its hard to keep weight on them so the performance formula does them well. Rayd is also on it too because he's a puppy and its easier than buying the wolf cub, when they are similar in value. Mace, Lark and Sage are on Wolf King because they are thick, big-boned dogs and I need to keep them as lean as posible, especially Mace.

Solid Gold is a good quality kibble.

I fed Solid Gold Hundnflochen or however you spell it. The results were good, but one of my dogs started refusing to eat it....... Even adding extra yummies in it didn't help much, she would pick around the food (silly girl)

I really LOVE how they vacuum seal their bags, and whenever I opened a new bag it always smelled good......not so much like dog food :)

Chloe was on "Barking at the Moon" for a short time... she didn't really enjoy the food as much as she did on other foods. We ended up switching them all to Orijen, though.

CeCe likes SG Hund-n-Flocken just fine. It's at the top of my list for quality foods to rotate through/alternate with.

It's totally subjective, but I swear when I introduced the SG food into the rotation her energy level went up noticeably. Her coat sparkles in the right light and she never leaves a piece in the bowl.

I like the foil package.

I know this may be another subject, but since doggy daze mentioned it, I am wondering about it. Rotating foods............The place where I buy my food rotates food every three months for their beagles. I am starting to think this may be a good idea for my dog. Anybody have thoughts on this??

The one thing I did notice when feeding solid gold (Mmmlennia) is I ended up with a lot more poop vs natura products. I mean not bad if you have a yard, But when living in a apartment it makes it just not as fun :-/ Otherwise it seems like a good food.

Rotating between a few good brands I think is a good plan... I know a lot do that, a lot don't. It's up to you I guess! The argument of one food might have to much of something and too little another seems to be a good one too.
