The dogs get bottled water and whenever I am pouring water into their dish, Chloe drinks from the bottle as it is pouring out... its kind of funny and I dont care since the bottles are only for the dogs or cat anyway, so I never told her not to do it.

Well today was a gorgeous day, so we went for a long walk... when we came back I filled the tub with an inch of water, threw the dogs in, and started to pour soap in and before I noticed she had turned around and taken a gulp of the SOAP as it was pouring out of the bottle

I quickly washed her face and mouth with water but I know she swallowed some... Is she just going to have diarrhea or should I be worried?!

You'd have to call the ASPCA poison control to know for sure... but it's probably going to be okay.

Does the soap have any warnings on the label? If not, I wouldn't worry too much...

read the back of the label, it should say what to do incase of ingestion.

If it says contact poision control immediately, then CALL YOUR VET ASAP!

You may also want to induce vomiting. Use hydrogen peroxide, start with a very small amount and work your way up. With your dogs I probably would try to stay at less than 1 teaspoon.

Sometimes inducing vomiting is a BAD idea so I would not do that unless instructed to do so by poison control.
The vet is probably going to tell you they don't know.

nope, no warning labels and nothing about what to do in case of ingestion (I guess they assume we are all smart enough not to let our dogs ingest it... )

^That's why I said to call the vet asap. They may not know, in which case they'll prob know where to tell you to call, or they'll check their ref books.... but I believe poision control is more for humans and they may not take the time to talk about dogs health. Kind of like how cops won't come get your car unlocked unless it has a human child in it.

ETA: you posted while I was writting. I would call the vet now, tell them the ingredients of the soap. Let them tellyou what to do. The ingredients may be harmless and they may not.

Well, if it's a product for washing dogs, you think they'd figure somebody was going to ingest it (and not necessarily the dog). God knows, I've had a few tastes over the years...

yeah the aspca poison control line is EXPENSIVE and also if you call the human poison control they'll likely help you out.

I've never had to call them either (which considering I own Auggie is a bloody miracle, LOL) but I have one of their magnets on my fridge with the number just in case. It is crazy expensive, sorta like the emergency vet... super expensive but if I have to use them, I will. Luckily I've been able to avoid it so far, but I like knowing if something major happened I could call them.
I HAVE however called the vet and had them go "We don't know. Can't tell you anything." a time or two. =/ Well, actually only one time have I called - the second time I immediately put Auggie in the car and drove there (it's only 5 minutes from my house) and walked into their office holding my poisoned puppy, and they told me "We don't know. Can't tell you anything." and sent me right back out the door. This would be why I don't use that vet anymore. =/

Semi-related: I bought one of those pet safe ice melts, but before I did, the store owner called the company for me to ask them what would happen if a dog ate the salt off the ground, since most of the pet safe stuff just means it won't hurt their paws, not necessarily that it's safe for them to lick or ingest. The lady on the phone at the company went, "He EATS it???" LOL. Yes, that's my Auggie. *facepalm*

Beanie, if my vet did what you described... I'd switch vets... like right away. That's pretty bad.

And if a company is making "dog stuff" I think they should assume a dog might eat it! lol.

so basically, dog soap is pretty mild, and therefore shouldnt cause much of an issue in small amounts... maybe stomach upset.

(according to a vet, didnt think this warranted paying 65 dollars for the poison control)

err.. It shouldnt be bad.. If you dont mind your dog turning into a gremlin... Speaking from experiance of course.

the evidence.. (There was more chewed up and swallowed soap too )

And then they mutate into gremlins.

In all seriousness though, it shouldnt be too bad and they may have an upset stomache at the most.

That's exactly what I did pae. Well, the first time I ended up calling the emergency vet instead and they helped me. I don't remember what he ate that time but they were like "Oh, oh, yeah, that's okay. Don't worry about it. He might vomit, but he'll be fine." So I sort of forgot about what the regular vet said. The second time though, I went right back home, got out the phone book, and started calling other vets. The first one who was willing to actually help me is the one I still use, and I am so glad I ended up with him, because he's amazing. I have never gone back to that other vet. It was just... disgusting. To me it was pretty much like if somebody showed up at the ER with their kid having eaten something bad and the ER went "Well, I don't know. Sorry. Can't do anything." and turned them away. I am still SO mad about it and it's been over two years.

Ohh I didn't know it was dog soap, PM! I thought it was dish soap! I will have you know I ended up with dog conditioner in my mouth a few weeks ago, LMAO. And it tasted REALLY FOUL, I mean seriously, it was NASTY. But I am still alive!!
Auggie licks his shampoo all the time while I'm giving him a bath. I try to stop him from doing it but he has a crazy anteater tongue and he sneaks little licks all the time. =P She probably won't even have an upset stomach from it, I doubt she ate enough to bother her.
