Not that I want an aggressive dog at all...but since T-bone is overly friendly to every stranger we meet, I was wondering if she would ever "know" the difference between somebody who is okay and somebody who is not.

Today two young guys tried to sell me magazines. They had to sell so and so many subscriptions and then they'd get a trip somewhere. I was only thinking "why should I care?" Well, I explained that I didn't need any...but they were really, really consistent. I held T-Bone while talking to them, she actually behaved really well. These two guys got really rude...I figured I had enough and wanted to close the door and then one guy made a step towards me.
Oh boy...T-bone started growling and snarling really really bad. She wasn't trying to jump at them, she just stood there. The guy backed off and they left.

I would never encourage her to bark or growl at someone...but she got a hug and kisses for that.

GOOD JOB :D It always amazes me how they will step up in a situation like that even when you think it is hopeless.

Teddy doesn't ever bark unless its while playing with another dog or at a squirrel up a tree. but my dad came home at 2 am the other night and TEddy gave one warning bark because he knew that wasn't normal :D but then he realized there was no danger and went back to bed

Good job T-bone. I sometimes wish I had a big mean looking dog so when I answered the door the people would want to go away.

I hate it when those people come to the door trying to sell magazine. I try to look out the window before answering the door and if it is someone I dont know then I wont answer it if no one else is here with me.

Some people from the Church of Latter-Day Saints came by soon before I had to go to class and I was like I am about to have to go and they are like well just let me tell you this first and grrrr. I dont like being rude, But some people have other things to do than stand in the door all day.

That's great! It happened to me once also, with a guy trying to sell books. He looked nice and all but really tried to guilt trip me and got really annoying. Well, Boris was in another room and making lots of noise, so he asked if he could see the dog. I asked him if he was sure, he said yeah, so I let Boris in the room with us. He jumped all over him and eventually peed on him from excitement. Best moment of my life :D Although Boris never got a clue that the guy was actually irritating, lol (he was 6 months at the time).

Great job, T-bone! That was a picture-perfect defensive reaction. She behaved well until someone acting threatningly, then she started growling and snarling in warning. Nothing unprovoked, and no sudden attacks or bites. T-Bone has this figured out. Give her an extra hug for me.

*sigh* Sometimes I wish Zeus was protective like that. Although I do love my big softie to death.

Good girl, T-bone!

Neither of my two have done anything like this, although there has never been an instant in which they may. Both are big suckies, so I probably wouldn't expect them to do anything. But they may surprise me.

I used to be very close with my neighbour's dog before they moved. I'd take her for walks all of the time. Ocassionally, we'd come across suspicious looking individuals, in which she would growl and bark. I miss her.

i think we put of scents we have no idea about. I knew a dog that was a guard dog in a "risky" store. There was a little swinging door that opened up right by the front door entrance. I saw that dog rise up and shoot out that swinging door before the person even got one foot in. If Bear said you couldn't come in, you didn't come in. He was a white german shepard. I know i have had my dog Charlie save my life in the past from a bad person, and all my dogs have reacted differently to different people. I trust their "judgement" completely.

Way to go, T-Bone!

My mother used to borrow my old dog, Patch (beagle/terrier mix) as a walking companion and there was one guy in the neighborhood that Patch would growl at if she saw him. Patch never paid attention to other walkers, but this guy somehow set her off, even half a block away. Mom trusted Patch's judgment and always crossed the street to stay away from him.

Good Job!!

That reminds me of one time I was putting gas in my grandma's car (it was late, maybe 11:00) so I was turned towards the pump not paying attention to anything and the next thing I know I see Chico flying through the window of the car and he's barking and growling and I turned around and there was this weird guy behind me, he backed off when he saw Chico. Lord only knows what would have happened to me if Chico wasn't there.

magazine sellers...

It’s best to avoid the people selling magazines. This has been going on for years and is often a scam... The magazines are usually way overpriced, and many times you won’t receive the magazines at all. You could even be subject to a home invasion.
