Lily is getting her first pet...that will be hers, live in her room, etc for her Birthday. She's turning 8. We won't be getting it til after the trip to DW end of this month...but...

She's getting a Corn Snake!

She has researched the heck out of them and is raring to go, lol. I think it's a good match and am looking forward to getting it here.

It should be hilarious to see what Elias thinks. :rofl1:He may never go into her bedroom again...and I don't think Lily would even mind!

Oh wow! Big responsibility - will she be feeding it too? :yikes:

Corn snakes are gorgeous, so pretty and pretty easy to care for. :)

Oh yes...she will be doing the frozen thawed pinkies thing. I talked with her about it and you all wanna know what she said verbatim?

"I eat cows and chickens, that's Nature...so what?"

She saw the pics online of the pinkies and such ready to be fed (and yes she knows they are baby mice lol) and was fine with it. She used to watch Zorak eat live prey all the time, including small lizards, so she isn't squeamish really.

AM...kinda lol.

She watches a lot of Nature shows, she'd rather watch those than anything "for kids"...those can be gory and graphic as we all know and she just really sees it as Nature and the whole Circle of Life thing. I know it's kinda different lol.

I remember in her preschool class, they put on March of the Penguins and someone complained their kid was traumatized because I guess some Leopard Seal eats one? Dunno, haven't seen it. But Lily was fine...she was 4 then.

I always watch those Nature shows with her and kinda watch to see she is okay and processing things the right way, so far so good...she isn't a cold person, by any means...very emotional and empathetic...but she knows what it means to have to eat other things to live...be it grass, salad or bacon...lol. I think her perspective is about right...

That is soooo awesome. Wish my parents would have let me have a snake when I was younger... they're terrified of them though

Welcome to the club!!!

They ARE cool!! She'll love it. And they're a 'simple' pet.... if she does want to concentrate on something else for a day or two, the pet isn't going to suffer emotional trauma or keel over from neglect! Perfect.

And you can hold them and interact with them.

Perfect.

Pictures!!!! There's tons and tons of information out there for her to go through, and I have found that reptile keepers on tinterweb are SOOOOOOOOOOOO helpful!!!

She'll love it.
