Smelly ears, flaky, almost like human dandruff, but the flakes are yellow.

My friend owns a shitzu, whose ears look pretty bad.

Inside, theres yellow flakes that cling to hair, and his skin KIND OF peeling off, and its all flaky.

[and it smells really bad.]

any advice?

We have a powder and some liquid cleaner, but he wont stay still.

Any tips on how to keep him still?

Any idea as to what this could be?

The dog sounds to have a very bad (and painful) ear infection and you need to have it seen by the vet.

A vet will also show you how to clean the ears. You might also want to get the hair in the ears pulled by an experienced groomer (warn them that it is her first time!).

Just as a side note to the last post by herschel, some vets say that you should not pluck a dogs ears when they are infected b/c the openings that are left after the hair is pulled could become infected. Still some other vets say that you should pluck the hair to allow better airflow into the ear to allow moisture to escape which will help the infection to go away.

its an ear infection, you can clean it with capful of peroxide and let it soak in then let ddog shake ear then swab out with q tip, you can get him to hold still by feeding him bits of chicken pieces. then you will need some panalog or similar ear treatment medication from the vet.
