any tips for getting a 14-16 pound dominant terrier adult and a 60+ pound boisterous rottie pup living in the same house peaceably? both have prior, positive dog experience. terrier had a large black lab at her previous home and has hung out with large dogs before but seems to be afraid that the puppy is going to trample her to death. puppy does fine with other dogs, but seems clueless as to how massive he is and gets way to excited about a potential playmate.
terrier is fine with him until he gets in her face, at which point she starts growling/snarling/snapping [depending on how close or energetic puppy is]. he doesn't seem to clue into her signals and still is trying to play. we are keeping them separated unless puppy is on leash and they are extremely supervised. terrier seems fine if she knows the puppy isn't able to pounce her.
