Skinned elbows

Nana's been skinning her 'elbows' on the cement when she lies down lately. It's getting red and raw, and her fur is thinning out in spots. She's 10 now, so she's not so smooth when she lies down, but does anyone else have this problem, and is there anything I can do for her?

That can be a common issue with older, larger dogs. I would suggest giving her the option to lie on something comfy, like a blanket or even better a doggy bed. You don't want the elbows to develop an infection so keep an eye on the healing process and discourage lieing on the cement or other unpadded surfaces as much as possible.

There's a cement porch out front that she loves to lie down on. I put down some comfy blankets a while ago, but she always pushes them away. Looks like she just likes the feel of the cement when it's hot out. We'll keep an eye on that elbow though. Thanks!

I know of someone who "invented" these leg warmer type thing for dogs specifically for this problem. I am not sure if she is still in business, though. Maybe you could whip up something yourself. These things had straps that went over the dogs back to hold them up. Weird looking...yes...but great idea!
If not that, then maybe some cotton on the elbows held on with Vet wrap? Just don't wrap it too tight!

Actually, I was just thinking of something along those lines since we have some extra leg warmers lying around...I've put socks on her before when she had a cut on her heel to keep her from licking at it...it looks ....interesting...
