I know that they are out there...But seeing that they are not in the standards can people really breed them and say that they are AKC, CKC... and so on.
Why does this colour happen. and why do people say it is rare and sell them for top dollar?

it's just a dilute, afaik. it's a serious fault and the dog cannot be shown, but that doesn't make it any less an akc dog than any other show-ring fault. people say it's rare and sell them for top dollar because people are morons and will pay top dollar for them.

black and tans (marked like a rottweiler or a dobe) show up from time to time as well.

if you're a breeder and you breed an akc dog to an akc dog and register the litter, all the dogs will be papered. it's got nada to do with the quality of the dogs produced, only with the bloodlines.

oh okay, so if you have a registered aggressive dog, and you breed it with another agressive registered dog. it don't matter if they are aggressive.

if that is so that is wrong. I think they should be registered for temperment as well.
just asking I learn from asking.
don't tkae this the wrong way!

Registering has nothing to do with temperment, or even conformation for that matter. A dog has two registered parents. It can look nothing like the standard, and act nothing like the standard, but if it's parents are registered as purebreds, it can be as well. Why do you think so many BYB's can BRAG about their dog being registered, as if it makes them better quality?

Silver labs are a diluted version of the chocolate. They are registered as chocolates. Their quality is just as good as any of the other three colours. They cannot be showen in a show ring because the colour is considered a fault however they can be showen in other avenues to prove their quality.

I do agree just because a dog is registered does not make it breed worthy.

For more information on silver labs and to see the one and only titled silver lab known right now go to red rock ranch.

By the way many people will claim that the silver lab is a lab mixed with a weim...this is not true. It is a false claim made by the traditional three colour breeders to discredit the silvers. Silver labs are just as much purebred labs as black, yellow and chocolates are.

You are so very right that is totally wrong and should be corrected. I was attacked by a Rottie yrs ago and the dog would end up crushing my hand.
I had to go through a lot of therapy to get the hand back and to be honest with you it was caused from the breeding end of the stick. Two overly aggressive dogs bred together and now you have mental cases that pop off like bombs.

No matter it is not about the dogs temp. and or the dogs color. It is about the dame and sire. That is how the dogs get the papers.

As far as a Silver Lab never seen one and probably would not know what to say. I know that the Dobs have 6 colors when they ariganally started with one. So who knows? I do not buy anthing as to the color any way. i go on pedigree and quality. That's the main focus here
