I really dont recall well enough but If i had to wager a guess I would say that the police probably didnt find the car because it went over the side of the road on the bridge TO silent hill. Or possibly the bridge was never repaired in the first place and they all just drove off into a canyon. If thats the case they mind can, in tramatic times, manufacture rational explanations for irrational events... and waking up, dead, in silent hill would seem fairly irrational.

Or possibly the cars were still opn the road. If I recall the detectifve working the case was very eager to circular-file it because of his past scars regarding the little-girl-turned-evil-spirit. He may have just never went out and "really" looked. Simply gave it lip service and went home...

Perhaps all, or none, Like I said I dont recall those details very well..
I believe the officer told the husband that they found the car, but no one was in it.

Did anyone catch the officer said they where looking for the woman officer, his wife, and his daughter when he first talked to the man before the guy said anything about his daughter?

Well thank you guys it's starting to make more sense. That the mother and the DAUGHTER were dead. BUT, then, is the little girl possessed while she's dead?

WHy does she give Alessa's mother that creepy look when they leave the church to go "home?"

HOw do they leave Silent Hill if they're dead?

The whole purgatory, makes perfect sense, but the father and the police officer to go to Silent Hill, so the canyon doesn't mix with the story.

I'm getting a better understanding, but only more questions are raise! ROFL

A Bit Long...

The way I understood it:

The little girl is PART of the weird lady strapped to the board; she's the "good" part, while the woman is the "evil" part. 2 parts of a whole, so to speak.

Silent Hill had a nasty tradition of killing "witches" or anyone else they considered an outcast, by this weird cult led by the elegant-looking woman. Because Alessa (the little girl) didn't have a father, they decided she was the daughter of the devil and had to be burned in order to purify the town, keep their "innocence" and keep away Armaggeddon. She was rescued at the very end, but ended up in the hospital. There, the Devil, or something like him, appeared to a very, very angry Alessa and made a deal with her - to take her to Hell, where she would be protected forever, and in exchange, to plunge the town in a nightmare world, and she agreed. (The devil/demon mirrored Alessa's appearance, but as a...darker image.)

Now, since I'm sure everyone is familiar with the supernatural and ideas that sometimes, maybe, there's another world that sometimes is more real than this one.

I think that's the premise behind this story - sometimes, Hell literally does come to earth, but only for a certain amount of time. Silent Hill, as a town, is dead. VERY dead, in OUR reality. That foggy town, is this OTHER reality that Alessa and the demon put the town in. Anyone that is touched by this, can't ever escape.

Since the people of THAT reality can't see the people of THIS reality, the little girl and her adoptive mother can't see the husband, and vice versa. They're still trapped in that OTHER that is Silent Hill, they apparently just don't realize it. That's why the movie ended with them in that twilight lighting, and at the same time, her husband's in a perfectly sunny day. They are actually in the same place at the same time, but in different realities.

At least that's the way I understood the movie!

I'm pretty sure the town folk were dead. They died in the first fire, when they were burning that girl alive and the curtains caught on fire, then the whole town went up in flames.

The girl didn't die (at least i don't think she did), but she is possesed and because the town folk did such horrible things to her they're living in a sort of pergatory. They're forced to relieve the fire in the form of everything buring in an endless cycle and outrun the demons. They're in Alessa's reality where she gets to torture them all she wants.

As for a sequal...every movie does one these days. I think it's only a matter of time before Silent Hill 2 comes out. Give it a year or so.

Stil haven't the foggiest what happened at the end.

The first part is CLOSE... I think Alessa *started* it by causing that mining explosion which is what caused the town to go up. Remember, there *were* survivors - that snotty cop who wouldn't let Alessa's adoptive dad into the town, was a resident of the town at the time. he was about the same age as Alessa was when she was caught by the cult.

YUP I'm sure there will be sequels.

I'm also sure that the people who were hiding out in Silent Hill were also ALIVE - remember, Alessa's first mother became old and raggedy with the passage of time. that old woman who was hiding the little girl who *was* alive? That was Alessa's mom. And she was obviously NOT old when she first had Alessa.

Some of the others there who looked to be around childbearing age, lost their daughters also, and got caught in the hellish reality.

SO, the people who were originally in the cult, did survive the mining explosion and grew older with time. They were finally killed at the end, with the barbed wire scene.

Well the mother and daughter where dead, I believe they died at the car accident in the begining. That would be why they where able to see and interact with the spirits of the town's people who where dead. The officer that was following her died too when her motorcycle crashed. The towns people where basically spirits that hadn't moved on. Like the little evil ghost girl said they hadn't accepted the fact that they died during the fire. Being dead was also the reason the father could "feel" the wife, but couldn't see her.

The father, officers he dealt with, and orphanage people he dealt with where alive though. That's why when they went to the town they couldn't see the wife or the other spirits.
If they were dead, why didn't the officers find the bodies and inform the father?

They did die in the fire? I missed that part! I'll have to get the DVD and watch it again.

I'm deaf, I catch a lot in the movie theatres but I also miss a lot! :lol-sign:
