As some of you know, I was trying to get into Spanish 3, in order to do that I had to take the Spanish 2 Final, along with my Spanish 1 final.
The cutoff to make it into Spanish 3 was 86%.
I got a 75% on the Spanish 2 final. :(
I don't know why I feel so upset, I just feel like I should have aced the test, because I KNOW how to speak Spanish, better than anybody in my class.
*sigh*
I just feel like I epic failed.

On the bright side, I raised my science grade from an F to a D (actually, almost a C!) just by doing a few makeup tests. So I'm technically not failing that anymore.

But Spanish...I speak Spanish at home, why couldn't I do good on that test? :(

Ugh, so glad school is over.

Knowing how to speak Spanish and getting a good grade on a test are two different things. There are a lot of people who have been brought up in an English speaking household and only speak English, but can't pass an English test.
For example, your second last sentence "..... why couldn't I do good on that test?" should be "..... why couldn't I do well on that test?".

My partner in my college Spanish class was Cuban and Spanish was his first language... and he failed the class along with the final.

He figured that he didn't have to pay attention or study, and completely bombed every assignment.

yah, I was wondering that too...

And yeah, just to repeat what everyone else was saying...if you grew up with a language, you are almost bound to fail it if you take it in school, lol...for the reasons others posted. I know a good handful that this happened to...

BUT...why the heck are you wasting your time taking spanish if you KNOW how to speak it?? Why don't you learn something new??

While I understand the concept of "learning" is tough to grasp when you are in HS (I am being dead serious here...lol), I think you would be better off taking a diff language grade-wise too.

Spanish is just going to leave you very frustrated b/c you can't just undo years & years of grammatical habits/slang that you know. You are probably going to have to work harder learning the "right way" for an exam (which you will just abandon the 2nd you walk out of the test anyways)...than if you started with a completely new language....especially if you make it into Spanish III, which is allll grammar.

THat was my first thought. How much attention did you pay in class?
Secondly, do you have any test related anxiety? Do you go with your first answer or do you second guess yourself?

The Spanish that's usually taught in schools has nada to do with every day Spanish ;) I know when I took it, Castilian was taught -- not something that's spoken outside Spain

Yeah, I probably know Spanish grammar better than most Spanish speakers, but they definitely speak the language better than I do. It's like how most of us don't do too well on English grammar tests but we all speak English.

I had the opposite problem, I speak Castilian and they teach spanish from mexico and stuff and that made it kinda confusing, LOL.

Depends on the class, but yeah, a D is passing. You still get the credits. I don't know, considering I was at school 45% of the time and failed a lot of tests, I'm pretty glad I have a D and not an F.

I did pay attention in my spanish class, and if I wasn't there I still kept up with my work and aced the tests, which is why I had an A in that class.

I am considering taking another language, we only have French, Spanish, or Japanese. I guess I could take french, but I don't know.
I like taking Spanish because I obviously am not failing it, so it's helping my GPA. It's the ONE class that I know I'll have a good grade in.

Dreeza, Ali has been sick a lot. And the school knows this and I have the strong impression that they aren't exactly stepping up to help her the way they ought. I believe she is trying to make the best of a bad situation.

ah ok...I had a feeling it was for reasons out of her control...just wasn't sure why.

That is ridiculous that the school isn't helping out. Sorry Ali :(
