First real test of her recall and it scared the CARP out of me!
We were coming home from work and running errands, and I was unloading her and everything else out of the van. I was putting things down to switch from one hand to the other, and somehow put down her leash. She walked a few steps away before I realized, and I tried to grab her, but the leash was JUST out of my reach. Of course by then she'd realized she was free, and TOOK OFF!
Down the back yard of my building, and was just hesitating at the corner to go around to the front. If she'd done that I would have been screwed as with my bum ankle I can't chase after her, and I was desperately hoping she'd stay in my line of sight. I called her a few times with no response, then I turned away and went back to the van hoping that would get her attention. When I looked back to her she was looking at me, so I called her to come again (firmly but not screaming). Thank GOD she started CHARGING back in my direction!! WOOHOO!
I dug around in the van for my emergency bag of liver treats, and gave her a whole freaking handful (And of course praised her like mental)
SO relieved!!
