I took Sienna, my female springer, into the vet today for that funky toenail she has that suddenly changed on us.
Upon looking at it today the vet is 80% sure that this was not the result of an unjury at all, based on the changes we are seeing in that nail and nailbed, the consistancy of that nail close to the toe and the discoloration that's popped up in the surrounding tissues, she now believes it is cancer.
I have to schedule a surgery to remove the nail, nail bed and part (if not all) of the toe itself. Thank God she accepts payments from me! While she's under they will do a dental too because her teeth are really bad. Which I guess is to be expected at 12 yrs of age *sigh*
She also has a sebaceous cyst on her head that keeps refilling with gunk that she is on an antibiotic for, and I have a diagram now that I have to keep track of all her lumps, bumps and warts on and every time I shave her I have to make sure there is nothing new that needs checked out.
When Sienna was 6 she had a tumor cut out of her ear canal that had some cancerous cells in it, they removed 6 lumps off her body in various places at that time too. So cancer has always been somewhat of a concern with her. After going 6 more years though I sure didn't think it would wait this long to rear it's ugly head!
Please keep her in your prayers if you would, she needs some extra good thoughts right now.
