Im picking up a female siberian husky puppy in one or two weeks. I already picked her out and everything, just waiting for her to get old enough to come home. Her callname will be Mishka, but I need a good registered, or show name, for her? Something that could tie in with Mishka. I dont have anything really, so Im open to everything.

Does the breeder use a kennel name? If so, it is respectful to use it as a prefix. The call name Mishka is pretty unique so I might keep it simple and just use Kennelname's Mishka. I also googled Mishka and see its the name of a reggae singer (male though) so another thought might be Kennelname's Reggae Music.

Good luck with your pup.

I suck when choosing reg names. Normally the good ideas come after the papers have been sent in :lol-sign:

When in doubt, I use XX of "Kennel Name" (thus Mishka of "Kennel Name").

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Unless the breeder requires a reg name right away ~ and I only know of a couple of breeders that do ~ I wait on the reg name.

Ares and Nyx were both over a year when I sent their papers in - it took that long to decide what to name them. Cost me a late fee, but I'd rather take my time coming up with a name I like.

We're still trying to figure out Hiro's as well. The only requirement is to keep the kennel name, which is a requirement for every show breeder I know.

Ask the breeder if she/hes using a litter theme. The theme for Ivans litter was a color. So that left me quite a bit to work with, NOT that it really helped. I still had trouble. LOL
What I did was write down all the names I liked. Then I would set the list aside for a day or two and go back over it and crossed the ones off that I found I didn't like. I would also say the whole name out loud to see how it felt. I like Yodels idea.

My girl IB had her litter during NCAA final 8 ...8 pups so they were nick named for those teams . One male was Duke . I asked one owner what name he registered . The answer was Hawthorn Hill's IB Duke .

I agree with the others - kennel name first. I think the breeder would have told you if there was a theme, but it might be wise to ask anyway.

Ilsa's was a Beatles themed litter, Ronin's was a "sense" litter. A lot of breeders I know use themes - it helps to remind them of which puppy is from which litter (i.e. a pet owner from six years ago calls up about their dog, Kennelname's Texas Twostep - breeder instantly knows the dog is from the "Texas" litter, sibling to Kennelname's Texas Toast and Kennelname's Biggr in Texas)

Do you mean kennel name in the beginning or figuring out if the the kennel name must be used comes first (though any good breed worth their snot I've come across will require a KN)?

I know plenty of (actually all) breeders who don't mind what the dog is registered as so long as the KN is there wherever it may be. IE: Instead of "KN" Reggae Music like yodel posted, Reggae Music at/of "KN" can be used as well.

I mean the kennel name shoudl go first in the name, as usual per show dogs.

More often than not, the breeders I know pretty much lt the new owners pick their dog's registered names, as long as they fit into certain parameters.

I was allowed to name a few puppies I was growing out, but the registered names had to fit into the breeder's litter theme - one was an ice theme, another was a beach theme.

Have never known or heard of a breeder who thought that. I know some have themes or guidelines with a litter, but whether the KN was in the beginning or at the end was never a concern. Worked for a handler and know many dogs with the KN at the end OR when the dog has two KNs (one goes in front, one goes in back). *shrugs* guess it depends, if the OP asks the breeder I'd be curious if they think the same.

LOL, there were a few owners who just wanted a pet but had to get their puppies finished (they were fun people to deal with - "why are you doing that to my dog??" "what do you mean I can't come over and say hi to my dog a class before it's suppose to go in?") and had so little care for the reg name that they would just name them "Name" at/of/from "KN." I use it because I just don't think hard enough about it, my dog has such a pathetic one that I wish I would have gone that route with her.
