Tom's Grandmother used to redd up the dishes and house too . We have become such a lazy country , speech wise . I really don't mind different area's quirks , but do bristle at grammar and lazy pronunciation . Every time people say " ta" instead of "to " I cringe !
'My bad' gets my goat. I've only ever come across it in foums and I think I may even have slipped into it myself which I suppose is MY BAD. Aaargh!

Another thing that gets me, is when people make those little air quote signs. Ooooh, if I was still in Scotland they may well suffer from a Glasgow kiss - and there's another expression for your collection, Doberluv. :)

LOL! Too funny!

Another pet peeve of mine is when I read, "prolly." I've only seen it on these forums and mostly by younger people. It took me the longest time to realize what they meant, first of all, and that they were not talking baby talk, but purposely writing that in place of probably. I don't get it at all. Why? Prolly because they heard it that way from someone else who had a slurring speech situation going on. LOL.

I saw a comedian on TV once that instructed the audience about red neck words and what they mean.

The funniest one was "meerfirminit". (Come here for a minute).

I also use quite regularly.. Wassadoin? What are you doing, or what's doing? But my county in the UK is renowned for it's lazy speech and missing words from phrases.

I mean it's the only county I know where you can reply to most questions with "Ahhh" How are you today? "Ahhh" And that is a totally acceptable response! LOL!

I also seen a comedian doing this...............the one I remember is "mayonaise" as in "Mayonaise a lot of people here tonight"

and I also notice a lot of "prolly" around.............but I here people say it that way too, that is most likely the reason they write it that way. I can tell you truthfully that when I spell incorectly it is unknowingly or it is a typo that I didn't catch before I post!

:lol-sign: sorry - had to!

i cant really think of any...i try not to speak/write in slang. I definately do, but i dont think i use any words that would cause people to go "HUH??"

lol, the pittsburgh ones cracked me up...my sis went to school there and would complain about how people spoke...those are totally ones she mentioned.

Another one she'd mention was people saying "this carpet needs sweeped" instead of "this carpet needs to be vaccumed"

apparently they like to leave out "to be"

I hate that!!!! Leaving out the verb to be. I had a boyfriend once who did that excessively....drove me nuts. The car needs washed. The dogs want out. He also said, (this is unbelieveable) The wind blowed the shell off my truck. Blowed? LOL.

I know...I am a lousy speller and I make loads of typos and incorrect grammar. But, the main reason is when I post, I'm usually in a bit of a hurry so I can get to other threads. I find myself often editing over and over as I discover really embarrassing mistakes. I know the difference between their and there.(possession and place, respectively) And to, too and two. But still, I sometimes do it wrong because I'm just not thinking about that at all. Sometimes I just think.....forget it. Who cares? It's only a forum. But other times, it's just too embarrassing. LOL.

I hope you believe that was on purpose! I wanted to see who would fix it first! LOL

I am far, far, from being perfect too Doberluv.................but I cannot stand it when my kids end the sentence in a preposition!!

Hey mom, where's my coat at? UGH!!!

Oh yeah! That's a funny one. I always wonder why people say that. The where is already indicating a place so why do we need at? Doesn't at indicate a place also? It seems redundant....not to mention that it is a preposition. Like (I think) Churchill said, "A preposition is a poor word to end a sentence with." LOL.

Well, I'm miles away from being perfect and I don't even wanna be. I kind of like "gonna." LOL...

My writing style is weird on the forum. I am very informal and just write kinda like I talk. I would never write that way for something formal. But, it's like....dude! Yo da home boys and that's just wassup for me.

Oh! Here's another one. When I was little, I'd be in a breathless hurry to get permission to go with a friend and we had to go NOW....all very exciting. I'd ask my Dad in a very exciteable voice, spitting out the words rapidly, "Can I go with Jami? Her Mom is waiting and we are going (where ever). And he'd slowly and deliberately say, "Well now, let's see...............I'm quite sure you're physically able to go. But do you want to know if you MAY go with Jami?" He was such a tease. It was all in good fun, but he'd drag it out. I'd be literally jumping up and down with impatience. LOL. "Yes Dad, MAY I go?" Tee hee hee.
