Zeus has that tight, short hound coat that is driving me bonkers. It's shedding season. I can scratch or pet him and his coat will be coming out like crazy, with loose hair flying everywhere. I know it's easily fixed by brushing, but what can I use? That short hair (less than 1/2-inch long) refuses to be caught in a brush!

I took Zeus to Petco the other day and tried four different brushes on him in desperation. After a moment of brushing, there were maybe 2-3 hairs in the brush. I tried slickers, combs, rubber shed brushes, and even shed blades. No success. Help! Any ideas?

Try the hound glove or the short-haired version of Zoom Groom. I think Aubrey's coat is a bit longer than Zeus' but it works so very well. I can't use a slicker on her, it doesn't do a thing.

Brutus is shedding everywhere. Is it shedding time for shorthairs only? Roxie and Maggie seem to be fine. I was using the sticky lint remover on my comforter yesterday trying to remove his hair. He just happened to be standing by me and I couldn't resist. I tried it on him. I was amazed how much hair came out. I know, I don't reccommend this. But he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He seemed to like it. Anyway, I guess I will see if I can find a hound glove as his brush is not working either.

I can't find a hound glove! They're mentioned everywhere on the Internet as the best way to groom hounds, but I can't find an online store that sells them. They're not even on Ebay! If anyone can give me a link to a store, I'd really appreciate it.

In the summer, Wendy was shedding like crazy on her shoulders and neck. Those parts have the longest fur, but the rest of her is short.Once, I was brushing her, and I kept brushing and brushing, and I was just surprised she wasnt bald by the time I was done! The pile of tight-bunched-up fur was bigger thren my head!Boy, there was a lot of fur on the rug...

The glove is good and so is this brush that I got, it's oval and reg brisles on the out side and wavy metal ones on the inside. The aren't real hard and catch the hair. It had a boxer on the front of the package and it works great. It's actually made for short haired dogs. I got it at some no name pet store.
I know I'll get some flack for this but I have also used these sticks from Petsmart. I was a bit desperate when I got them (I was living w/ my parents and my Dad is very allergic). See the ingredients say "animal-by-products" But they really worked. (It almost came to Baby having to live elsewhere until we got married and got our own house) Anyway they are call Thera Sticks. your choice, but not only did she shed less but her breath was better and her body odor wasn't as bad. Plus she loves them.

A pumice stone works wonders on short haired breeds. Also use a 10 blade and go over the dog (called carding) this is the cheapest and best way to get out the old dead coat. ;)
