Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! There so adorable. They're little fluffy balls as pups and they grow up to be such beautiful adults. Jessee is absolutely gorgeous.

Just so you know it was completely wrong of you to have been holding out on us this long. ;)

What beautiful baby foxes ;)

I was hoping to share some baby pictures around here next month, but the ultrasound is next Thursday, and I can tell you it doesn't look promising so far. I'll just have to enjoy other people's babies for awhile longer :)

BTW - why the preference for sesame (I like it) is it a pigment concern?
It's not that we have any REAL preference for sesame, it's just that for whatever reason, it's the hardest of the three accepted coat colors (red, sesame, or black and tan), to get correct. Most of the dogs in American show rings are mis-marked reds, where there are concentrated patches of black hairs on the body in some places, but the coat remains a "clear" red in others. The last really *wonderful* sesame in this country is a boy that my breeder owned a long time ago, CH. Jacquet's Genji. He was around back when Shibas were *just* getting accepted into the AKC. He won many rare breed best in shows. Now breeders have a tendency to shy away from breeding for sesames, because more often than not, the coat color ends up being incorrect after the dog matures. It's important to keep them in our lines however because they impart a correct, harsh texture. If you breed exclusively to reds you tend to start seeing softer, and lighter coats- almost yellow looking.

Now, what makes a sesame a sesame? Is it a dog with black guard hairs? That boy you posted is really striking. I've only ever seen reds.
Sesames should have an even intermixture of black hairs throughout the entire body, save for the white ventral surface markings, "urajiro." They don't necessarily have to have it on their faces, but it should come up far enough that it ends at a widow's peak. The end result should look almost "cinammon" colored. And there should never be a section where the hair is more darkly concentrated. Unfortunately, that's almost exclusively what we get in the US. Part of it is that even the Japanese find it hard to breed great sesames- so they certainly don't want to part with them! Until we manage to get a few, it will be hard to improve this color.

Just so you guys see ALL the accepted Shiba colors :)

A black and tan NIPPO winner. Nice example.

Jessee's sire is Ch. Tenkuu Go Etchuu Wakasugisou JP. AKA "Taro." He is the top-producing Shiba stud of all time in the US, and is just 5 years old. His impact on the breed has been amazing- a truly prepotent sire that improves upon every bitch he breeds. ALL of his puppies get his triangular eye, clear red coat, perfect ear pitch, and fantastic temperament.

This is him:

Thanks for all the great compliments everyone! We were really proud of this litter, and I can't believe I forgot to post photos. Kimi's head is getting bigger by the moment.

Oh..my..gawd.

Taro is exactly what I picture when I think of a Shiba, though admittedly I don't know the breed that well. Still. Wow, wow, WOW.

Shibas are on my list of dogs I'm considering getting- In like 10-20 years. Long time frame, I love them so much but I realize they take a lot of experiance. Yours are so cute!

When you can afford the fenced ring...

... surrounded by a moat...

...surrounded by a 50 foot wall dug with the 20 foot foundations...

...surrounded by a chain link fence with observation posts...

...on a private island.

Wow, Tempura. Taro is drop-dead gorgeous.

And the other black/tan dog is beautiful, too! I think that's actually the first time I've seen a Shiba of that color.

See, this is the problem with Shibas. They're too cute for their own good yet look very noble.
Hehehe- this is how they suck all of us unsuspecting slobs in...then, when it's too late, you realize a dog owns you. The Shibas have us trained very well. I am now a CPX (companion person excellent), and I'll be in the Utility ring soon.

Well Citrus- come look for me in 10-20 and I'll set you up with something nice. ;) I wouldn't even say that this breed takes a lot of experience (the first dog I ever owned was a Shiba), it just takes a lot of studying, a lot of creativity, and more patience than you'll ever suspect you had. I guess the best way to describe it is that it will be more like trying to train and motivate a cat, than a dog. And you've also got to be prepared to own a dog that you can probably never take off leash.

AHAHAHAHAHA- I wish. Although in all honesty, it sounds a LOT like my own breeder's set up. She's got several acres of land in the middle of nowhere- PERFECT for raising little hellions.

And the fencing sounds about right. ;)

Wow, Tempura. Taro is drop-dead gorgeous.
I agree! :) He is VERY Japanese in style. I'm hoping to have my next puppy by him.

Black and Tans aren't that common at all either- although you do see a few now and then. Kimi's dam was a BEAUTIFUL black and tan, actually. A little spitfire named Koku. She made history by being the only black and tan Shiba bitch to take best of opposite sex at the National Specialty from the Open class, beating out a huge entry of champion girls. So Kimi is black and tan factored, should we ever decide to breed her to a dog that carries the gene as well....
