What made you go that route?
I was cruising petfinder, and found Gambit's picture. I knew I didn't want to go through a breeder, since Argon strongly disliked puppies, and I hadn't found quite what I was looking for locally.
Did you have a certain type you were looking for?
A herding dog, since I really fit well with them. Under 35lbs, since I didn't want it to tower over Argon. Male, since he preferred boys. Athletic, since I wanted to do sports.
How has it worked out?
I drove 5 hours each way, and came home with a coyote. Taking that into consideration, I think we've done really well together. He's so funny, smart, and unflinchingly loyal. I love him like crazy.
That said, he hates strangers and will never be trustworthy with them. Sports? A distant dream. I'm just hoping for him to quit growling at the neighbors.
What was the adoption process like?
I filled out a very generic application and was approved. I drove down, handed her the money and left with my dog (carrying him, since he wasn't even slightly leash trained.). Personally, I think that they were thrilled to have hoodwinked someone not local into taking him, because most people would have returned him within three days.
