Emma is driving me insane. I love her to death but I can not deal with the shedding. Picture lab like hair thats shed just as much as if not more than a GSD blowing coat. Im not egagerating. I swear im goint to shave her. If I dont do something she may end up an outside dog when we get our new place and I cant stand that idea. I vaccume daily. My car is a mess because it weaves its way into fabric and no shop vac can get it out. Arg!

i've got a couple breeds notorious for shedding... plan on bathing at least twice a month, using a Zoom Groom to massage in the shampoo, and buy a furminator for a weekly going through. Also, the food you feed will impact the shedding to some degree, make sure it doesn't contain any fillers and has lots of omega 3s, 6s, and 9s. Some use salmon oil, but I find sunflower or safflower oil in the food works great too without the fishy smell.

But there will always be "some" shedding, it's unavoidable. Shaving the dog may result in smaller hairs, but there will still be millions of small hairs everywhere. :)

Furminator, zoom groom, professional blow-drying thing that blows out ALL the hair. Regular baths. I know they're on good food, so no problems there. Get a Dyson vacuum cleaner, DO NOT get lots of carpeting in your next house, and buy leather or equally fur-resistant furniture. For your car, you're going to need some sort of seat covers, and get rid of any carpets and replace them with plastic mats. Or keep her in a crate.

See the line under my username :D? Seriously, with 4 permadogs and up to 3 fosters at any given time, I WALLOW in fur twice a year, so you have my sympathies.

Furminator, brushings in between, and when they get bathed, I use a trick a groomer told me. She said get a bottle of Herbal Essences conditioner, the one in the pink bottle, shampoo the dog, rinse well, and then dump half the conditioner bottle on the dog, working it down to the skin. Then take an undercoat rake and start raking the coat out, this conditioner had so much simethecone in it the hair will just slip right out.
And by god, she was right, it cut back on the shedding a lot, that and the high power blower I got from Petedge.

How's the Zoomgroom? Never tried one, would they work on a double coated dog?
