Hi--I have a 10 year old mixed breed with a sensitive stomach and very few teeth left. The only food that keeps her stools firm is pro plan senior and that is what she's been eating for the past 6 mos. I've noticed she's putting on more weight and not really chewing the kibble but inhaling it and now my thought is to go into a canned food gradually with maybe just a few kibbles on the side for variety. What would be a good canned food I could transition her over to that is more solidly packed (not runny) that would not cause diarea? Thanks

I would give Eagle Pack or Canidae cans a try. Canned would be a great option for a senior pet. I personally prefer Eagle Pack because of the research behind their food, but not all foods work for every dog. The best thing you can do is try them and see how your dog tolerates that particular diet.

foods not at petco

thanks showpug but our nearest pet store is a petco and they don't carry candae or eagle pack. They have Nutro, Bil jac, natural balance and pro plan as their premium foods. Any of these? I could order online but am not sure either of these foods will agree.

natural balance canned

I think because Petco is so convenient here I will try the nat/bal. Bob, do you know how much canned to feed a 55 lb dog that needs to lose about 5 lbs without losing muscle tone? We've pretty much have always done dry food with maybe a spoonful of canned so I am pretty clueless. I feed her twice daily and she gets one cookie in the afternoon. Just picked up a can of the nat bal chicken and it says 3 cans a day for a 50 lb dog. This seems like a lot especially since she is a senior.

I have no idea as I have always fed kibble with just a tablespoon or two of canned for variety in Smokey's morning meal.

thanks for the advice. I'm starting w. a half can twice a day w. a handful of dry food on the side and we'll see how she does.
