I was awakened suddenly by a loud bang today, after a quick call to 911, I ran outside to find this not even 500Ft from my house.

All pictures where taken after the guy in the pickup was in the proper medical care. The semi driver did not get hurt at all. I was the first on the scene.

No pictures are of the guy that got hurt.

The guy in the white pickup was going to town and hit the semi in the middle of the trailer, the back end of the truck got run over and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown through the drivers windows and I found him under the semi trailer. He is in really bad shape, didn't know who he was or what had just happened, he asked me why he had paint on him. Me and the semi truck driver almost had to force him down. He is not in good shape. He has a pretty good head wound and we almost couldn't get the bleeding stopped.

The neighbor from the north came down and I found out she was a CNA, now that's luck. Once she got there I checked out the truck and disconnected the battery to prevent and sort of fire.

I will go out there again when everyone is gone and take pictures of the road damage.

As I was running over I was really wondering what I would find, thankfully it was better than I thought it was.

Applause for thinking on your feet! I have no idea what I would have done after I called 911. My mom being a nurse and all I probably would have tried to help but I don't know if I could have told a person the "paint" was blood *shivers* Anyways, you're awesome, I hope your road is still passable and that everyone turns out ok.

He thought it was paint so I told him that the semi was hauling paint and it spilled and some got on him. I figured it was best to keep him claim. The maintaner beat me to it too, so the road has already been fixed.

Oh my gosh! That's just awful! I hope the guy will live. Is there any way you can find out how he's doing? What a horrible accident. So, this guy in the pickup went through the intersection too soon?....before the truck and trailer had completely passed? I don't quite get it. Goes to show how important seat belts are.....statistically.

You really handled the emergency stupendously. I am sure you were appreciated.

What happened is this

Where the big red truck is, is the direction that the white pickup was going, the semi was going north, or away from me in that picture, with the corn on the corner neither driver could see each other until it was too late.

The semi went through the intersection first, then the white truck hit the trailer of the semi and got spun around backwards, in the process he went through the drives window, then with the truck spun around, the trailer ran over the back end, which slowed down the trailer. I found the guy UNDER the semi trailer.

This is a pic of the semi being towed away. Taken from my living room.

Another semi came and got the trailer.

I hope not. Speaking of seat belts, I can give another reason why you need them.

This was one of my good friends Jeep. He was driving drunk and not wearing a seatbelt and once he was thrown out the jeep came and crushed him.

Today brought back that memory.

As for seeing how he is doing, I have a good friend in the sheriff's department that can tell me. He can't give any detail, but he can tell me if he lives or not.

Why in tarnation don't they have a 4-way stop there? Or something. Good grief!

Gosh, that is so sad about your friend. I am so sorry and so sorry this brought it all back fresh in your mind.

People who say that seatbelts won't save you if...the car goes in the water, if this, or that...but statistically, they do save lives. So, buckle up. It's the law. (at least in some states) Don't get me started on that though. I don't think it should be a law for adults, even if I am adamant about wearing them.

Yeah....so sad and that had to be so upsetting for you. You did a great job in taking good action during an emergency.

Geez. It's really a gift to be able to act calmly in situations like that. I really hope if I'm ever in an accident someone as calm as you comes to my aid.

I, on the other hand, SUCK at stuff like that. When I see or hear an accident the first thing I do is think "OMG I don't want to see what that's going to look like". The fear has actually paralysed me on at least one occasion. My father fell 25' off our second story roof directly onto our cement patio. I was the first one to get to the door...but I couldn't go through it and go out to him. I was too scared. Luckily my mom, a former paramedic, was in the house and at the door about 5 seconds behind me. I honestly don't know what I would have done if she hadn't been home.

I joke with my dad that if mom hadn't been there...he'd probably still be laying on that patio. I really don't think I could have gone out there. It was really, really bad. Pretty much as bad as I was fearing. :|

But I want to do something about that. I want to be helpful if the situation occurs. I think I should find a CPR course or some kind of emergency preparedness program. The more knowledge and information I have the less fearful I'll be, I think.

Great job. That man was very lucky to have you as his guardian angel for the short time you had together.
