Rory had a seizure about 2 weeks ago. According to the foster mom and previous owner who surrendered him to rescue, it was apparently his first witnessed one (He's 5). It scared the life out of us and we rushed him to the vet. He told us that it can be common in IG's and unless there is a prolonged seizure lasting more than 5 minutes there isn't any reason to bring him in. I have done some reading on herbal remedies and bought some Rescue Remedy. Apparently that can help to calm them and even lessen the severity of the seizure. If anyone else has any advice for me, that would be great. I'm hoping it was just a once in a lifetime thing, but I want to be prepared if it happens again.

They are so scary !!! The best thing is to remain calm and make sure that they don't hurt themselves . Reassure them ,as they are confused when the come out of it . Keep track of dates .

First off, start keeping a log. Write down everything from what was going on when it happened, how long it lasted, etc. Usually dogs who seizure are not medicated until they're having at least one seizure a month or if they have multiple seizures in a short time (called a cluster, and very dangerous).

My old dog started having seizures a couple months ago. The first grand mal seizure he had woke me from a dead sleep in the middle of the night. It was horribly scary.

All i can say is seizures are soooo scary ((hugs)) i'm sorry that happened.

I agree with keeping a log, date, time, and length of the seizure....severity and if anything happened before.

I'm not sure how it common it is for seizing dogs to bite accidentally, but i recommend holding his head so he won't bang it, dimming the lights if possible, and speaking calmly to help him stay safe-feeling.
