I think Rookie must have seasonal allergies. When I first got him from the pound, he was 8 weeks old and itchy and scratchy. His belly looked like a fire red rash. And he was constantly knawling on his feet to the point that the hair was gone. We took him to a vet specialist and he suggested changing his food. We got him in June and by the time the food trial was done it was probably September and he was clearing up real good. We have kept him on Merrick canned food and he was doing great. Now...spring appears and it seems like his allergies are back. He keeps licking and biting his feet. Not to the extreme as before but I still worry. Is there a shot or something that he can be given? He was on Atopica last year and we stopped when the food seemed to help. I am thinking that it was always seasonal allergies. I did give him one Atopica Saturday and again today. Anything to make him feel better. Is there any antibiotics? Thanks!

Antibiotics are only effective against bacteria, not viruses or allergens.

Something that will help long term is giving your dog a spoonful of locally produced raw honey. It has to be locally produced AND raw to help your dog build up resistance to the allergens he's exposed to. If he'll eat a bit of the honeycomb that's even better.

Aloe vera gel is very soothing to irritated skin, and you might want to ask your vet if there is a non-steroidal topical ointment he can give you for your pup.
