I know I don't post that often, but I really need the support of people who will understand. My little Seagle the beagle has an obstructed bowel and will be having surgery to have it removed today. He was vomiting yesterday and I didn't become too concerned until the diarrhea started so we rushed to emergency. All of his blood came back fine, except for him being a little dehydrated. And then his X-rays showed a blockage in his upper abdomen. He wasn't showing any pain when they were palpitating his abdomen and once they had given him some fluids they gave us the option to let him stay for the rest of the evening, or we could take him home because we live so close if we needed to return. So, we brought the little hound back home so he could sleep in our bed cuddled between us. I should say that he slept, I stayed awake making sure that he remained okay.

At this point we don't know what the blockage is. He will have X-rays again this morning to see if any progress has been made because of the barium. Please send a little thought out for my little man today. I know that bowel obstuction surgery is fairly common, but it is still a big procedure and I can hardly think straight because of the worry I have for him. He's my little guy and I love him so much...

Thank you for the good vibes!!!! We have escaped surgery!!!! He manages to pass the plastic wrapper to something that we are not sure of!!! The little guy nearly gave me a heart attack I was so worried about him. For most of the day it has been a waiting game as the wrapper SLOWLY moved through his system. He is pretty tuckered out, but in he's going to be just fine. Scent hounts and their appetites....I don't even know where or when he managed to pick it up, and I am obsessive about what my dogs get in to. Again, thank you for the good vibes, it is now time for me to cuddle up with the little monster and relax!

Glad to hear Seagle is doing well!!
Did they do a barium study?
I ask because my GSD was in for same thing back in 2004 - Xray showed a gassy blob in the GI Tract but no bones/stones/etc. Did some back and forths and overnights, Sub-Qs and IVs and on the 3rd day they did the barium study as the last bit before going in.
Now my vet told me before they did it that it's often called instead the Barium Cure because dogs will be able to pass something that wasn't really moving before with other treatments.
Sure enough, Dante had a mixture of sand and fur (sand from when I took him to a dog park and his own fur - he's a groomer)

My vet credits the barium for helping move things along! When we brought him into the vets he was in awful shape. Once he started the diarrhea along with the vomiting he rapidly turned for the worse and we rushed him in. Before our vet even had the chance to see him the blood panels were run and he was placed on an IV for dehydration. Once the x-rays were taken they gave him the barium to see if this would move things along, but we were fairly sure that he was going to have the surgery. In the morning the barium had helped move things along a LITTLE bit so we decided to play the waiting game. Thankfully he is bouncing back to the normal little monster that he usually is!!!

Last night he was SO hungry, but of course he could only have a tiny amount of bland dinner to see how he would do. Everything is moving along like it should, and this morning we gave him a larger sized bland breakfast and he gave me that famous beagle stare after he ate it that said, "MOMMMM....c'mon, Iz hungry!!!" Hopefully if today continues well he can have a bit more for dinner, but he is on the bland diet for a few more days after all of the vomiting and retching, just to keep things gentle on that poor tummy of his.
