I am a inner-city teacher and I had a student (Special Ed) who was bragging about beating his dog for pooping in his basement. When I asked some questions the student revealed that he rarely took him out of the basement. I couldn't convince him that it was unreasonable to think the puppy could go 8 hours let alone days without pooping. After talking to him after class I became very upset and it bothered me all night. The next day I asked him if he would like to sell the puppy. He finally agreed and I meet him and his mother after school at their house and bought the 11 week old Pitbull/Lab puppy for $40. The puppy to my suprise was well feed but EXTREMELY dirty and scared. I couldn't take him home (Wife said no more dogs) so I took him to a no kill shelter and they found him a home today....happy ending. The plight of the Pitbull in the inner city is SOOOOO depressing I just had to share that story with someone.

That's wonderful!! He could've spent his entire life in a dark basement being beaten.....now he has a good home :).

Makes you wonder just what goes through the minds of these children. Sad. Are their lives so strangled that keeping a puppy imprisoned in a basement seems "normal?"

You did a great thing.

Oh that story just breaks my heart! You are a WONDERFUL PERSON to have done this! Goodness knows how much this is happening, and if he wasn't a special needs child, he may never have even mentioned it! (he might not have realized what a BAD thing this is to do).

Yeah, just remember every little bit helps! And I'd say you were a hero, especially to that puppy. Thanks so much for sharing his story.
