I am grieving a little today.
When we bought our house, there was a 300 yr old sycamore tree right smack in the middle of the street. I live at the dead end . Seems they left it here because of it's age. well Saturday they cut it down. It was over 60 ft tall and 3-4 feet in diameter. It was perfectly healthy too.
The new neighbor wanted it gone ever since they bought their house. That is thier house in the pics. And his complaining worked the township cut it down. No council meeting nothing. I am furious !
Now my house is sooo HOT. I want to give the neighbor my electric bill for the AC that I will have to run in the bedroom so Paul can sleep all day.
Why would someone buy a house surrounded by large trees and then worry they will fall on his house??
I feel like something died, well, I guess it did.

That is just wrong . . . . are you going to complain to the council? It won't bring the tree back, but maybe it will make them stop and think before they pull a stunt like that again.

Since they've cut it down, they need to come back and charge the neighbor who wanted it cut down with the bill for stump removal.

Oh, and send your utility bill to the council.

Their house looks so stark without the tree !!! I take my chances with one of my trees and one of my neighbor's . !!! I HATE to see big , old , healthy trees cut down ! I cried once when I saw many cut down for a housing complex ! They could have planned around them .

Yeah this make me feel sick! Their house looks like crap now. Trees especially old ones bring such charm to a neighborhood not to mention SHADE!!

You know . . . you should alert the media and have a mock funeral and a mock murder trial. After all, the township did the deed, but the neighbor put the hit out on the tree.

It sounds silly, but it could embarrass them enough that they don't do this kind of thing again - at least not for a long time.

Right now is a great time to hit them hard about the impact something like this has on energy consumption as well.

Can you tell antics like this really p1ss me off?

Well.... since the tree was apparently healthy I don't see a reason to cut it down.

but to say that someone shouldn't buy a house that has trees near it if they are worried it might fall on the house? I can tell you... around here you likely aren't going to FIND a house that doesn't have large trees near it. Why WOULDN'T you worry about it?

My mom and step dad have the city coming out to remove two large trees in front of their house that are dying. they are very large and my mom's house is very tiny. My step dad was almost hit with a large branch that broke off when he was out mowing the lawn.

^^^^ not to mention what it means to the environment ! All parking lots need trees more than concrete ! .... many posts before this one , and I agree with every one !

They better plant about 100 around town to help make up for it.

They did that here last year as well. One of the oldest remaining elm tress that survived dutch elm and all. I forgot how many hundreds of years old it was, but it was at an intersection and was blocking the driver's views down the street. So after many council battles, it lost last year and was finally cut down.

Although, nobody wanted to see it go, it went in the name of "safety" even though a alittle patience while driving could have done the job as well, they did end up planting quite a few trees to try make up, I guess, for cutting down the old one.

this tree was healthy no broken branches no damage nothing. And I said what I meant. If you are worried about trees falling on your house why buy on a wooded lot on a tree lined street? When you are looking for a house you have the opportunity to find something that fits the way you want.
Where we live just a block up the street there were 2 houses for sale at the time they bought and many neighborhoods with new construction in the same price range that were in open fields no trees.
Of course, there are places with old unhealthy trees but not in this spot.

I wanted to make a sign saying" murder happened here" but my hubby won't let me They removed the rest of the tree and ground the stump and the pile of sawdust left looks like a grave.
