Ruckus has a hot spot!

Right behind his ear. Ewww, its nasty. I cannot believe it, he has never had one before. I ended up shaving it so I could get medicine to it and where it can breathe. Now my poor boy has an ugly bald spot.

Any pointers on dealing with hot spots?
At work (I'm a dog groomer) we shave the area and put our all natural hot spot foam on it. and of course advise a vet visit, or a close watch on it.

Someone on my Anatolian board uses the emu oil product made for pets for hot spots:

Thanks guys. Ruckus actually gets bathed in emu oil shampoo twice a month because he is allergic to grass. I know emu oil works wonders for that. I have never thought about trying the emu spray. The company (Kenic) that I get my shampoo from has a spray, I wonder if it does the same thing.

What we use at the shop is basically comfery, vitamin e, aloe vera, and tea tree
The shampoos at the shop for hot spots are all tea tree based too.

What we have used in the past for hot spots is clean with hibatane and apply calendula plus during the day then clean with cooled organic green tea at night and apply calendula. I have tried many things from vinegar, garlic, emu oil, gold bond, and many other things but found the calendula was the best for healing the hot spot. I have found since taking my dogs off commercial dog food and putting them on home prepared they have not gotten a hot spot since.

Jack has an area of hot spots now on the side of his face--the whole side of his head is shaved. I read about cleaning it with Listerine and using Gold Bond powder on it. The Listerine worked pretty well as far as cleaning, but the powder wears off really fast.

We took him to the vet and got a cortizone shot, some tritop ointment, and antibiotics. it was spreading quickly, and was dangerously close to his ear, and after already dealing with a hella ear infection I did not want to take any chances.
