Since ya'll have heard so much about Marley ... our high prey drive guy ... thought ya might wanna see him. :)

He's an Aussie-Rottweiler mix ... running joke (from others!) is that he's a Rotten Aussie. :::sigh::

Beautiful boy standing on patio:

Bad pic ... his butt's cut off. <g>

Goofy head shot ...

Thanks you guys!! :)

Yep, we're biased ... but we do think he's a big ol' cutie.

I love how he's just the perfect mix of the 2 breeds!
Thanks! If only people would believe he's a mix. Get the same comment on walks all the time: "Wow ... a long-haired Rottweiler!!"

We try to explain that no, Marley's a mix ... and Rotties don't come with long hair ... many still insist he must be a long-haired Rott. :lol-sign:

As soon as I saw the thread title, that's what I thought. I had a "Rotten Aussie" also.

He is absolutely gorgeous!! If in the future I found a boy like him, he would be mine!! What a beautiful dog!
Marley thanks you for the compliment. :)

But he would not be a good choice for you ... you guys have lots of pets right? Marley's gorgeous but has high prey drive ... he would eat our cats if we didn't do the crate/rotate routine. He also does NOT do well with other dogs indoors and is unpredicatable with that ... attacks with no warning. But he gets along fine with other dogs outdoors.

He came with many "issues" ... most trained or "gentled" out by now. (He had been severely neglected in his first home.) But some things can't be trained out ... like high prey drive ... and he still has some residual anxiety at times, because of the background he came from.

I had a "Rotten Aussie" also.
Cool!!! Didn't know of anyone else who had the same mix. Got any pictures ... would love to see how others of this mix turned out in appearance. :D

I love the intelligence in his face - really a great cross there :) Gotta wonder how he'd be at herding!
Thanks!! But Marley's kinda like Tyra Banks ... a beautiful ditz.

He's a little goofy and takes a very long time to learn anything ... but once he does learn he doesn't forget. He's been tried at herding (local ranch with long-time herding dog mentors) but he wasn't keen on it and was deemed "lazy". Prey drive but no herding drive ....he can be high energy at times ... but generally is not. He's just my big ol' lap dog. :D

And actually, some Rotties do come out with long hair. Its a throwback gene, I think.

Yours definitely looks like he's mixed with Aussie though. :)
Wow ... thanks for the link!! 'Nother example of how we all learn from each other every day. :)

Quote from the site:
The Long Hair Rottweiler It is something that happens every great once and a while. I have rotts with smooth coats and plush coats I have seen purebred rottweilers with long hair like the length of a border collie’s hair. It is just something that happens occasionally.
Seriously doubt Marley's one of those though. His feathering especially is longer than the pictured dogs, his ears are wrong, and he has the natural bob-tail of many Aussies ... not docked. (Wondered about that so the vet felt his tail ... it comes to a very distinct spine-ending point ... not a stump.)

I'll bet, when he's settled more and you've worked through some of his anxieties, you'll find out he's very bright. Most any dog would be ditzy after a rough start like your poor guy :)

Thanks Renee, but Marley's not recent. :)
He's actually been with us for close to 2 yrs. now, and through two professional trainers. We're not his 2nd home ... we're his 4th, and he was only a little over a 1 yr. old when we got him.

He's the one that rough-shod rescue lied about ... told us he was turned in by a family that had to move, that he got along well with other dogs, and that he ignored cats. All lies. We tracked down the truth by a lot of research using info from his tags and the little bit of paperwork that came with him. He was severely neglected in his first home .. left chained outside 24/7 from the time he was a pup, mostly fed and watered by a neighbor who *finally* called animal control. Marley was forcibly seized from that home at 11 months old. He was at a shelter and adopted, brought back b/c of unpredictable aggression. He then went to a resuce and was adopted from there ... brought back again for unpredictable aggression. All that was in another state.

The "rescue" here picked him up from there ... based on his stunning looks, and fabricated a brand new history for him. She chose him for us ... supposedly "matching" him to our very short list: a.) No human or other-animal aggression issues, and b.) Preferably housebroken. When we had problems she flatly refused to take him back. We found out later from a trainer once associated with her that she knew about his issues ... and wanted him out of her home b/c she was worried about her own dogs and her fosters.

That's when our long journey with Marley started ... beginning with getting him out of his anxiety issues. He only seemed calm but was not ... he was shut down, terrified, and terribly anxious. Saw a post here recently, saying we shouldn't force dogs to accept cuddles or hugs if they don't like them. But I think it depends on why they don't like them ... Marley didn't b/c he was terrified. Can only imagine what else happened to him in his first "home".

He loves his hugs and cuddles now, but after nearly 2 yrs. of us working +R with him, along with 2 private trainers ... his prey drive's never going away and some of his old anxieties may continue to surface from time to time. Vet suspects some of it may be due to lack of adequate nourishment during his puppyhood. Thankfully he's not HA ... but may have become if some idiot mistook his anxiety and trust issues for "dominance". He's not the dog he was nearly 2 yrs. ago ... but he's still our special needs furkid.

We'd love some of those famous Chaz "vibes" and hugs for him! :)

Not any good pics.

Here's the best one I could find. :(

If you didn't know better, she looked like a labX. Up close you could see Rott in her - she had the tan points, also in her hind end structure you could see it, and she had a lot of rotti personality traits. I had suspected for a while that she maybe had border collie in her until I took her out for herding and the BC people all said she didn't have a drop of it, but the aussie people said she most definitely had aussie in her. She worked stock like an aussie.

Marley is suuuper handsome! :D Now I know why you put up with so much from him. He really does have the good looks of both breeds.

If you ever need a babysitter *ahem*... I am right down the hill! Well, the mountain.

Thanks!! But Marley's kinda like Tyra Banks ... a beautiful ditz.
LMAO!
Take that back. Tyra is a genius!!!!

Glad to see any picture of another Aussie/Rottie!! Thanks for posting it!!

:) Ahhh, it wasn't his good looks ... more his pathetic background when we had found the truth. He was OK with casual pets ... but so wanted affectionate contact but he was afraid of it. Isn't that just so sad?!?

It was very difficult gaining his full trust ... Marley is not at ALL food motivated, and not toy motivated either. He ignored the usual things like stuffed Kongs, etc., ... and still does. He's still not interested in any kind of toy or treat. But since gaining his trust over a year ago, he's now very motivated by affection. Loves his hugs, massages, and lap time ... even though he's way too big to be a lap dog. :D

Take that back. Tyra is a genius!!!!
LOL!!! On some level she is .... after all, she's "ditz-ing" all the way to the bank!!
