ok, question, say you have a dog and you have a roommate. Your dog is still just a puppy and the roommate knows that puppies can be destructive. you tell your roommate that you recommend he/she closes their bedroom and bathroom doors while not in either of them so that the puppy can't get in there and mess up their things.

So you are home one day and and your puppy is out and you didnt know that your roommates bathroom door was open. Now your puppy hasnt chewed up anything in several months. Your roommate comes in to discover that your puppy got into their bathroom trash and begin screaming at the dog. What do you do?

This is what I did:
I turned to him and told him to stop screaming at my dog. He has no idea what you are yelling at him for. He then goes on to yell at my dog and trys t put him in his crate. I then tell him to stop and that again you can not scold him and dont even think of putting him in that crate. So then I get yelled at by him saying that I am dumb and have no idea what I am talking about and he will know what he is getting yelled at for and I have no idea how to train a dog and that his dog was the best dog ever and thats how his parents trained her etc.

Am I in the wrong?

Yes and no. He is YOUR dog and YOU are responsible, so you should clean up the mess and apologize to your roomie. When YOU have YOUR puppy out you should close HIS doors, unless he specifically tells you not to, in which case make sure to remind him that you can't supervise your puppy when he's in someone else's room.

If he refuses to let you keep his bedroom/bathroom doors closed, I would keep your pup on a 10' tether. Possibly work on training him to stay out of your roommates bedroom.

Now, your roommate is wrong in doing anything to your dog without your permission, and you need to speak to him about that. I believe an apology is in order on his part.

I totally agree with what Nolu said exactly. He really sounds a lot like my roommate Jon in how he handles your dog. Thank god for my animals that Jon is moving TOMORROW. Anyways, Jon is a nice guy, but I'm not always in agreement with the way he treats my animals. He has definitely gotten better, but that took him watching how I treat them and multiple talks with him when I felt he had gotten out of line. He's always telling me that his dog at his parents house does everything right because if he messes up he gets the crap kicked out of him. That's not how I treat my dog though and seeing as how Bamm is MY dog then he needs to respect my wishes and how I train.

Maybe when your roommate calms down you guys can go over the ground rules again. Also... definitely make sure his door is shut when your pup is out. I know it's a pain in the butt to have to walk behind your roomie and close his doors.

Agree with Nolu and Skittle . . .

But I have to ad, screaming over trash? Sounds more like he's taking something out on the dog . . . I mean, how anal do you have to be to scream over trash? If it was an expensive pair of shoes or something like that I could understand him being that upset, even though the screaming is totally unacceptable . . . but TRASH?

Renee... my roommate Jon sometimes yells at both my animals for even LOOKING in his room... some people... wouldn't you agree? Goober has a door bursting issue sometimes where he tries to run out the door when you open it. One time Jon came come. He opened the door and Goober ran out. The next thing I hear come out of Jon's mouth is, "GOOBER I'M GOING TO RIP YOUR F***IN TAIL OFF!!!!" Of course I went out there and was like, "Ummm no you're NOT!" He grabbed Goober, took him inside and pretty much tried to toss my cat. I was a little ticked off that day.
