Middie just did this tonight while I was watching TV... I was sitting in a chair and he was on the floor leaning against my legs, and I gently stroked his shoulder and he bent down and rolled over on his belly, waving his paws in the air and grinning at me.

He has NEVER done this before. Ever. He'll lay down when I tell him to, but that's on his belly, not his back. He seems to enjoy belly rubs when he's being goofy and rolling around on things.. but he's never deliberately laid down and practically begged for belly scritches.

Is this, um, normal?

when an animal bears their soft underbelly to you, it means the are comfortable with you and trust you. Its also a submissive behavior. Middie was probably saying "I love you mommy give me scritches!"

I have to so much as walk near my dog, and he has all fours up in the air!

He also does this when I am at my computer, and then "pets" me with his paw until I give him the much desired attention...

My dog is a love pimp, so, that's all I can say about that! Have you ever seen the picture or card with the dog on all fours with the fan blowing on him? Yup, that's mine : )....

I think it's a good thing!

Nolu... if it's not normal, then i'd better start worrying about my boy! Ronin literally does this dozens of times, every day. He lives to do rollies!

Oh yes... it is totally normal. Kona often rolls on her belly and throws all 4 paws in the air. Most of the time she acts like she is "swimming" with her front paws.

Rumor does it all the time. She dances and flops around while making some of the strangest noises I've ever heard. Sort of like an odd growl and bark. Highly entertaining to see her do.

If it's abnormal then there's something seriously wrong with my dog.

If she sees someone she likes, she'll go running up to them, do a flip in midair, land on her back and skid her way to their feet where she begs for belly rubs.

Dogs are just.. weird.

Nooo I meant it's really abnormal for HIM. He's never, ever done it before so it freaked me out quite a bit! MOST of the dogs I know are constantly rolling over for belly rubs, and he's never done it to anyone before. I guess I phrased that wrong! Thanks for the input.
