After reading many of the training threads in this forum and the nice whether where having it has gotten me into the mode to teach my dog, F-Basset-Sammy, a new trick. I had never done “role over” with her as it served no functional purpose so that’s what I picked to do with her.
Problem is, I don’t know if rolling over is something she can do easily.
I began to teach her with treats and got so far as having her on her side trying to push her self over, but every time she would struggle and I would help her make the full rotation. It seemed as if she was really trying by the end, but it was very difficult to make her body move in that way.
After I had thought about it, I don’t think I have ever seen her role over under her own power, except a few times and that was after wiggling her body quite a bit.
Do you think she, with her long back and stubby legs just doesn’t have the means to build proper moment to get all the way over? Or should I just keep trying until she gets it?
