The CGN is considered a CKC title here, but the CGC is just letters lol. The CGC isn't regonized by the CKC therefore - no "real" title lol
huh? you lost me!

i don't know much about the CGN and CKC -- but you called it a title.
my point was that the CGC is the AKC equivalent, but the AKC only considers it a "certificate" - not a title.

LOL in the CKC the CGC is NOT considered a "title" either. Its more or less just letters to say that they achieved something. SO a mutt here can obtain their CGC.

BUT the CKC recognizes the CGN as a achieved "title" and it goes after their Registered CKC name.
Riots RNCL title is just a "certificate title" as well, the CKC does not recognize any titles that aren't achieved at CKC sanctioned events :)

Ok, then I have a question. What's the difference between the CGC and the CGN? It sounds like a very similar test.

They are basically the same test..

Canine Good Neighbour is for the CKC

and the

Canine Good Citizen is for the AKC

I think those are the differences, although you can get your CGC here as well.

That's what I thought it was, but I wanted to make sure. I wonder why the CKC and the AKC have such a different view of the test, in regards to "titling".

lol I have no idea..

they have a huge variety of differences in the breeds they "recognize" as well. The AKC sees the Belgian varieties as different breeds, where as the CKC regocnizes all varieties.

the AKC doesn't even recognize the Belgian Laekenois.

LOL yup! How odd eh!

Some of the breeds the AKC recognize in the Misc class I wish the CKC would recognize! They are nice..

The CKC JUST recognized the Icelandic Sheepdog in May(or march.. ?) as well..

however, the CKC refers to the CGN as a certification on their website, not a title, dont they?

i asked some of my friends who are breeders in canada, and others who actively show (in breed ring, obedience, and rally), what they know...

Canine Good Neighbour

CKC Canine Good Neighbour Program

Good Dogs Make Good Neighbours...

Objective:

To identify and reward responsible, caring owners and their canine partners throughout Canada.
To ensure that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is accepted as a valued member of our communities right across the country. Canine Good Neighbours can be counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs.
What?

The test is non-competitive and allows dog and handler to demonstrate confidence and control in 12 steps. It assesses the handler and dog's relationship, together with the handler's ability to control the dog. Dogs are evaluated on their ability to perform basic exercises as well as their ability to demonstrate good manners in everyday situations.
Why?

The training program embraces both purebred and mixed-breed dogs and is fun, rewarding, and useful. It encourages owners to have a better and richer relationship with their dogs. The program also enhances community awareness of responsible dog ownership and the numerous benefits associated with dog ownership.
The Canadian Kennel Club encourages all dog owners to participate in the program, ensuring that our beloved canines are welcome and respected members of our communities.

That was directly off this website: www.ckc.ca

I didn't see any mention of certificate or title mentioned, there. So I've e-mailed them to ask! :)

the CGN is a regocnized TITLE here in Canada.

I have spoken with a well known breeder about it before at the show that held the CGn testing.

Its a regocnized title after a dogs registered name.

When I sign Riot up on a Show Premium for a conformation show..

I can not put Riots RNCL title on it, but CAN put his CGN title - because it was obtained at a CKC sanctioned event, therefore recognized by the CKC.

This is what I am told by the executive of the Belgian Shepherd Club of Canada.
