Has anyone used it? Had any side effects from it ect ect.

This August Tyler and I are going to BC and there are heartworms there unlike Alberta who has none. I just called the vet and this is the treatment they use. They said its a liquid that you just put between the shoulder blades. You give it to your dog before and after your vaccation.

Revolution is a flea/tick/HW/other-internal-parasites preventative. If you don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, or other internal parasites, personally, I'd request something else. I just prefer not to give topicals if I can help it.

If you do have to worry about fleas, IMO, a safer option would be Sentinel. It's a pill. IICR, it's not a poison like other preventatives.

BUT, I'm not your vet, and if your vet has a reason to give Revolution then you should go with it.

I'm not a fan of Revolution...personally I use interceptor - I live in heartworm central though.
Could your vet approve a script to order JUST a heartworm prevention like heartgard or interceptor?

Because she's going to BC i think she needs the whole shebang of prevention. It's hot and humid in BC during the summer so theirs lots of mosquitoes that carry HW, fleas, and ticks that carry lymes.

We've used revolution at the humane society here no problem.

Personally, I would go with a frontline treatment, and a separate heartworm prevention. Revolution is a systematic preventative - and I am not a fan of something staying inside my dog for 30+ days...
The only systematic thing I use on my pets is comfortis (which I'm still not thrilled about, but it's the only thing that is controlling the fleas right now...)

Thanks guys I will call the vet tomorrow and ask about the other preventatives you guys mentioned. I might want the whole Sha-bang though as we will be be doing alot of hiking and our house is in a very remote place in BC.

you can get adequate coverage for your pup - by using different things. Frontline will take care of fleas/ticks - although you will still want to check thoroughly if you're in an area with ticks. The heartworm prevention you choose will more than likely have another dewormer IN it - which will control the other parasites. Revolution only handles american dog ticks - so depending on the ticks in the area, you may not be covered there.

Lola came to me from the previous owner with Revolution which she said she was using on Lola. Lola also came to me with fleas so it appears that Revolution was not working. I use Frontline Plus and Interceptor without any problems. Interceptor prevents whipworms in addition to the other parasites which Heartgard does not.

I've always heard that Revolution is specifically for fleas. There should be something separate for heart worm as well.

Revolution is heartworm, flea and the american dog tick. People like it because one product does so much.

Hayley.. if you need a whole whackload of protection including deer ticks.. you need more than one product. Unless they've changed revolution recently it only covers the american dog tick. My vet recommended revolution which Cider was already on when I wanted to go to NY. I've never seen a tick here in Ontario. Told me 8 ways to sunday it was protection for everything. I didn't bother to look till Cider was covered in ticks and I was in NY. Next trip to NY I used Heartguard already for heartworm and added Advantix for ticks and at that time it worked alright. Some, areas have resistant fleas and ticks to some products these days.

The vet used revolution for the ear mites in Pompadour, it worked really well :) and no side effects , except a bad smell of the medicine. LOL

He had two doses, one killed all the adults and 15 days later the vet applied another to kill the new larva from the eggs that the adults left.

That's why I like Frontline Plus. It kills any fleas and larva at the same time so the larva can't become fleas. It also kills any ticks that might get on the dog and it does work well around here.

I've been hearing so much about this. I personally use Heartgard Plus chewables. I've been told it's the best and my Charlie has never had any problems.

I would do a search and read a few reviews before deciding. Just make sure it's not just someone trying to sell it to you.

There's a good review here by a vet if you are interested:
