My neighbor's cocker spaniel has been given Advantage or Frontline monthly for a lot of her life. She has a real flea problem, they are constantly treating their whole place for fleas. Advantage and Frontline do not work any more. Her understanding from the vet is that the dog, not the fleas, has developed a resistance or immunity to the treatments. I don't know if this is correct or not. Can anyone enlighten me on this? I have used these products, mostly Frontline, only periodically if my dogs get fleas. They haven't had any in years, but they do get ticks this time of year. Frontline plus seems to help the ticks, but I don't want to overdo it.

Frontline stopped working for us, and that was only after 4 months and we lived in an apartment complex full of cats. Our vet said that the fleas were resistant to it, probably from generations of cats using it in the complex.

She also told us that a lot of her clients, and her own self, were having problems with frontline not working this past season. She prescribed us Comfortis, and it was like a miracle drug. It doesn't work on ticks, but boy does it ever keep fleas away.

Tried Frontline once. Didn't work. I'm sticking with Advantage. Has always worked for us.

It's not uncommon for one of the flea meds to work and another not work. I personally don't find that Frontline works for my dogs, but Advantage does. And now they have Comfortis as well so that's another option. ;)

i use k9 advantix.
frontline doesnt cover for the ticks and frontline plus seems to be uneffective in the area.
fleas DO build resistances to topical flea preventative so if all the vets in the area push frontline + and have been for years and EVERY client is using it it oculd be your in a frontline resistant area, and likewise visa versa on the others.
i found advantge doesnt agree with ruby and doesnt work as well against the other nasties
advantix however worked perfectly for us last summer! but i also dont have to worry about any cats trying to groom the dogs.
k9 advantix shouldnt be used in a home with cats that like to snuggle with or groom the dogs as the active ingredient can be deadly to cats.

Frontline has worked in the past for me, but it didn't do squat this year. Tried Vector3D and haven't seen a flea since.
