So I was just checking out a sight where a customer of mine just bought a Schnoodle pup from for her kids for Christmas :( I know two strikes against the lady! She came in to buy a bank check from the bank I work at for $1250 dollars and she has been a customer for awhile so I have gotten to know her pretty well. I basically told her that she could have gone to an animal shelter and adopted a poo mix of somesort for around $200 or less and that what she is paying is ridiculos for a Mutt! She did agree that it was a small fortune of what she was paying but wanted a hypo-allergenic breed. I told her that there are already "purebreds" that exist for that purpose and that she was taken by a designer fad. I said that you would have paid alot less for a well bred purebred from a real reputable breeder. Here is the site:

:yikes: That's the same breeder that was featured on that horrible Today show segment! The one that endorsed designer breed puppies as Christmas presents! And now that I think of it, the Today show said that designer dogs were hypoallergenic.

I hope your customer wasn't influenced by that segment. If so, I hate to think about how many people rushed to that website to buy a puppy.

Good grief. I had no idea that The Today Show endorsed this BYB. What a crock...it just demonstrates how truly under-educated the public is to the plight of adults and puppies being bred in this manner. And even with the proper education available, and with substantial information present, people choose to look the other way.

I didn't realize this breeder was featured on the TODAY SHOW! Good grief! Anyways, I emailed the breeder and asked if she did any health testing on her adults before she breeds, and why I would have to spay and neuter a "purebred cocker" but it doesn't say that on her doodle page. It doesn't say anything about S/N nor did I see any kind of a contract. Did you see all those poor SUCKERS who have bought pups from her? Purebred mutts!
This is what I asked:
Your pups are very cute but, what is the reasoning behind charging $1250
for a MUTT and a $1000 and up for a "PUREBRED" Cocker? Also why does it
state that I would have to have my Purebred Cocker spayed/neutered and it
doesn't state that with the mixed breeds you breed? Shouldn't a mixed breed
be spayed neutered more than a purebred? Do you do health testing on your
males and females before you breed such as eyes, hips, temperament, or check
for any genetic defects? Thanks

And this was my response

And you are ?

I hope you told your customer that hopefully she will find a good home for the pup once it doesn't turn hypoallergenic

I told her that there is no guarantee if they are first generation bred and that she does realise who will be taking care of the puppy (her), she did say she new it was going to be her resposibility. She also said that she is going to neuter him so she will be doing everything right except for the fact that she got robbed in what she payed for a mutt and suckered into the designer fad!

Wow... that was a nasty site...

They have WAY too many dogs for "companion".

I really dont understand WHY they would have AKC pointed dogs breeding to mutts either...

Too bad that many traits, never mind breeds do not follow simple rules like this one!

I wonder how many genes influence coat alone? Color, length, curl, undercoat, ect. Since the colors in dogs can be gradational, you need more than 2 or 3 genes. It seems rather simple in Shelties, a merle gene, black, tricolor, ect. What about a Chessie where it is just shading? Humans have about 6 genes for skin tone, are Chessies the same?

Well at least I got a longer response.

What I wrote:

I have been searching for a puppy and I would like to ask you a few questions before I decide on a breeder. Why are your crossbred dogs more money than the purebred ones? It kind of just doesn't make any sense to me. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't the purebreds be more money? I mean is it not true that crossbreds are more likely to have a lot of health problems and that sort of thing? Do you do any health testing? If I was to purchase one, I would like to see health papers if that is ok.

Her Response:

Hi

I'm sorry but I dont answer unsigned emails or letters. When people come here to see pups, I show them any and all health papers pertinent to pups. My dogs are health tested and are vet checked and so are all my pups.

Sorry you can't make sense of my prices. Please find someone who is less expensive. Out west and down south, breeders have dogs having pups outdoors and the people have lots less expenses. Maybe that's why their dogs are cheap. Most websites I see with purebreds , the pups and dogs look like mutts to me.

Kindly do not email me again. If you need information about breeders and what they do or don't do, read websites, put your questions into search engines. I'm sure there must be breeders around you with cheap dogs. Why do you think a Ford is cheaper than a Mercedes? Do you ask the Mercedes or Cadillac dealer why they sell expensive cars? ALL dogs started off crossbreeds...or do you think purebreds evolved with the apes? Following your line of 'reasoning', we would all own wolves.

Here is my email:

Hi,

My name is Jessie, and I am interested in purchasing a schnoodle puppy from you. I have a couple of questions about your dogs:

1. Are all of your schnoodle puppies priced so high? Why are your cross breed dogs priced so much more than many show quality purebred dogs?

2. If I were to purchase a puppy, would I be able to have full breeding rights, regardless if it is mixed?

3. Do you do health testing on your dogs? If so, what tests?

Thanks for your help,

Jessie ****
