It was just a stupid piece of judgement - one of those things people do because they don't want to look "that way" to their friends - or 'faux friends.' A cell phone call for a 'buddy' to buy coke. How stupid - a piece of very poor judgement. Fulmer taught him better than that.

That said, the prosecution coming at this late date (remember it started right after he had that record-breaking season several years after the fact) is a gross example of maliciously using someone's celebrity to make a statement. Real world criminal law doesn't operate like this. If it's this small and happened that long ago it just gets filed away and forgotten, unless someone thinks that there might be a chance to turn someone to stay out of jail. The only reason it's been pursued so vehemently at this late date is because he's Jamal Lewis. If it had been Peyton it never would have been allowed to get this far.
