Just putting this out in the universe before questions come up later.

We are rehoming Cajun. Not going to elaborate or try to justify anything to anyone, she's just a bad fit in this house and the stress on everyone (other animals included) is too high.

I'm hoping you guys know me enough to know this is a last resort, not a first choice.

Having rehomed animals because they were a poor fit...no judgment whatsoever from me. I hope she finds a great home!

I do feel I know you well enough that I know you must have been fighting to solve any issues with Cajun.
I'm so sorry that it's not working out.

Not surprised or judging a bit. From what you've posted, it seems like she's a very strong-willed dog that needs an advanced owner and your mom just isn't that person.

The very first and only dog I ever rejoined was the same thing. Too much dog for me to handle at the end of the day.

I think that oftentimes the maniacal "rehoming pets is a terrible thing!" crowd fails to take into account two things: one, that sometimes it is in the DOG'S best interest and two, that the people involved matter, too. I'm sure you guys did everything you could and at the end of the day it's just not a good fit for you or her. I would hope that everyone understands that.

It happens and not every dog is the right match. It must've been a really tough choice to make, I hope Cajun finds a good home :) and your mom finds the right pup!

I've been there and totally understand that it's not even close to an easy decision. Best of luck to Cajun in her new home!

Thanks for the understanding. It makes me really sad, she is a sweet dog, and if we could just snuggle on the couch all day and watch movies, we'd be good. Unfortunately life consists of more than that, and she is not able to cope with those things.

The idea has been thrown around a few times in the short time we've had her, but we thought we could just work out some of the issues (I mean, we just had an in-home training session 3 days ago....). That is not turning out to be the case, though.

Oh no, I'm sorry. =< I know you guys had been struggling but I just figured it would all work out. Sometimes it's just not the right fit. Does her breeder have another home lined up already or do you get some time with her to get your goodbyes in and stuff?

Her "breeder" is taking her and keeping her. Which isn't necessarily my favorite decision either, to be honest when we emailed her I wasn't even expecting her to respond. But she did, and very quickly. Before we picked Cajun up, she had commented that she really wanted to keep her (not sure why she didn't) - so today when we contacted her, she was really excited about the idea of getting her back. She is staying here until next weekend.

I don't think we would have had many other options for her, though.

I don't know what that means for Cajun's future, but ultimately I think being on a farm with nothing to bug her except her own family, is going to be easier for her to deal with than the suburbs where people come and go, and where she has to be exposed to "scary" things in order to get exercise.

Having had to be in the position, no judgement here either, sometimes it's what's best, not every dog fits in every home. I wish the best for Cajun, and hope your mom finds "her" dog, if she so decides to try again.
