Okay heres the situation, as i have said before we are looking for a dogue de bordeaux puppy, so we found one, the breeder seems cool and responsible. Well the ad claimed that the pups are AKC eligable, which is something that we want because i feel that a good breeder will have their dogs registered. she sent me tons of pics and i picked the one i want, sent her $200 deposit and i am supposed to pick it up this weekend about 4 hours away. ANyway to get to the point, she kept claimin i could get the FCI papers i need offline, because both parents are FCI and i need FCI to send in with the AKC/FSS, but i couldnt find them so i called her, and she said "well did you go to the FIC website...." and that threw up a red flag! i was like "dont you mean FCI?" and she said no they are FIC thats what i meant all along. SOOOoo.... i asked her if the FSS will still accept FIC, she says yes but i have read otherwise, i wrote the AKC and the DDBS to get more info so i am awaiting their responses. Does anyone know if she is right? i didint want to tell her she is wrong since she is the breeder, and "should" know more than me. I am just so mad right now, i hope that she can still have recognition, BTW i dont just want FSS registration, i want her to be able to have 100% AKC recognition once the dogue moves into the working class.

They accept FCI, UKC, and USBC, and i think the DDBS. and the dog has to have a three generation pedigree of these acceptable registries.

Unless both dam and sire are registered with AKC and she has registered the litter, I don't know if there's anyway to register your pup. She should have registered the litter and they have sent her back a form for each pup. How did you find her ??? Really sounds fishy to me, if you've already sent a deposit of $200, I imagine this is not a cheap pup !! I'm so sorry for you !!! If you want to show and register you need the papers...I would talk to her on the phone and ask if either parent is registered. Explain your situation and go with your heart and gutt..... this could be the best puppy or a real heartache. !! Let us know !!! Share more, if you can !

I don't know if you have a good breeder or not, but it seems your more impressed with the AKC papers than the actual dog. The AKC is not going to do anything positive for your breed.

Personally I think it is really sad that Dogue De Bordeaux owners have even allowed the dogs to be registered as foundation stock in the AKC. It is going to ruin the breed. Like so many other great dogs, they will eventually be down bred. Why is the AKC so important to you? This is one of the rare breed mastiffs. Why isn't the actual Dogue De Bordeaux registry good enough for you? If you really loved this breed you would be trying your best get the Dogue De Bordeaux registry to pull their affiliation with the AKC.

This is one thing I love about the Filas, the owners are doing everything they can to keep this breed from becoming AKC foundation stock dogs. As one of them, I will fight it to the very end. I don't want them ruined and down-bred!

The AKC registration papers are important(and correct me if Im wrong B33) because she wants to show/work the dog under the AKC title.

This also sucks with my breed, because although you can go all the way with the UKC, many, many people still dont scknowledge this breed because it is not AKC, just UKC.

To many, it IS a difference. Especially for national recogniton like shows and GCH.

I have to agree with Mach1
AKC is only a registration. If you dont plan on breeding you can register your dog with an ILP if you plan on competing in some of the events. Not sure which events take ILP's but I do know you cannot Show.

If your not happy then ask for your deposit back. Some breeders will do that if they are getting alot of calls for thier litters.

I should have checked before posting... Dogue De Bordeaux is not a recognized breed with AKC.... if this is what you want, you have to go with where they are recognized. Why the breeder ever said you could get AKC papers, I don't know !! Maybe for a sale ?? Is this like Goldendoodles for $1000. ??

It may only be a registeration but if that breeder lied to you don't get a pup from her! get your deposit back. The registery is not everyhting but you don't want a breeder that lies form the begining.

The registration isnt the only thing that is important to me, but i dont want to buy from a breeder that lies and false advertises. The registration is somewhat important because i would like to have the option of showing, i was thinking about getting into it, plus there are soooo many dogue de bordeaux in the USA that arent registered or they are registered with some useless club like the FIC that will register any dog, and it seems like a lot of the breeders that dont have the registration arent good breeders, atleast that is my impression from all the searching i have done.

Some one said something about the Dogue not even being AKC reconized.... Well as of july 1st the Bordeaux is moving into the Misc class, then 1 to three years after that it is moving into the working class, you are supposed to be getting your dogue into the AKC/FSS now and how it works is you have to have one that is registered with the FCI, UKC, or USBC, and a three generation pedigree of acceptable registries, all the dogs that dont have this will not have full akc recognition once the bordeaux moves into te working class nor will they ever be able to.

But the bottom line is I dont want to buy from someone who lies and makes me feel uncomfortable about the situation. Even after i sent her the info from www.ddbs.org saying that her dogs couldnt be registered, she wrote back saying that hers can still be registered and we can go through the UKC if we have to and it can get done somehow, she made it sound like a shady deal. Plus the fact that for the last two weeks on the phone and through email she was saying FCI which is fine, but then all the sudden its FIC... like she was trying to slip it past me. Then claim she got mixed up, yeah right, if you are a breeder you know who your dogs are registered with and you wouldnt make the same mistake 20 times in a row on accident.....Plus they were going to meet us half way we live about 7 hours from each other, so now im thinking that she was going to show up and be like "oh i forgot that papers" or "the papers are in the mail" and then i wouldnt get any kind of papers at all, i have heard of this happening with other breeders. atleast i only had to send her $200, i asked for it back because it was never claimed nonrefundable...
I'll just keep looking, $1250+ is alot of money , i need to make sure that it is healthy and coming from a good breeder.

bub, you are right, i would have liked to see where the pup lived.

But at the same time i was thinking that if i owned these expensive dogs i wouldnt want anyone to know where i live, becuase if people around here knew that you had 10 pups worth $1250 a peice they WOULD try to steal them. So thats how i justified her wanting to meet half way. BAD IDEA i know....

atleast im only out $200 instead of $1500, cuz i considered having her ship it. Bad idea again...i know

I'm with Grammy. I looked into buying a Lhasa Apso female puppy before I found Mojo at the shelter, and she was cute, the price was okay, and supposedly she came from a family of champs (although back then I couldn't read the papers to save my life). When I set up the appointment to meet the puppy I told the breeder on the phone that I wanted to see the mother, the father, and the kennel in which the puppies were raised so I could get a feel for the conditions the puppy were coming from.

When I got to the breeder's home, the mother was present, the father was not - "oh he's off with my daughter right now getting clipped..." - and I wasn't allowed into the basement kennels - "we're in the middle of remodeling." The mother was nice, the puppy was cute, but I was VERY upset that I couldn't see either the kennels or meet the father after I had told her I wanted to see them on the phone. And I told the breeder that I wouldn't be buying the pup from her for those reasons.

I may not have known how to read the papers that were supposed to come with, but I did know that I should see all of the above to make sure I wasn't getting a puppy mill puppy!

Always visit the kennel especially if you are dropping a lot of money. Always ask to see the parents... not just on the visit you pick the puppy up but beforehand as well. Papers are worth nothing if your dog is unstable, or isn't what it's advertised to be. Ask around the community of other dogue de bordeux (there has to be an online group!) for their recommendations of GOOD breeders who know what they are doing and aren't in it just for the money.

Good luck

UPDATE: okay i told her that i dont feel comfortable with the situation anymore and i asked her for the deposit back. She hasnt called me back or emailed me since then, that was just the day before yesterday(Tue). I really think that i deserve my deposit back, am i right? it was never claimed nonrefundable. My husband is very mad, he feels like we deserve it back because she false advertised. He says to give her a a few weeks, and if she doesnt want to give it back then we need to list her on ripoffreport.com or maybe even run an ad in her local paper....what do you all think? He doesnt want to just stand back and let them rip us off... he wants her to feel some reprocussion.

I never mentioned this before but last tuesday the 25th, i called her and asked her to send us some updated pics of the pup we picked and she said that she would in the next couple days, friday came and i still didnt have any new pics so i emailed her, she wrote back and said she would get some to me over the weekend, tuesday came and i emailed her again and she said that she would get some that day and thats the same email where the FCI switched to FIC. So i dont even know if i would have gotten the pup that i picked, since she was so reluctant to send pics. She kept claiming it was too muddy outside to take any...

::sigh::

yeah bub, i thought the muddy excuse was weird, especially since she claimed they were house dogs. I just trusted her for some reason, she seemed like a good person, which is so out of character for me, i usually dont trust anyone, i think i was just caught up in puppy maddness, because now when i look back at the situation i am kicking mysself, becuase i knew better. I know i did the right thing by backing out...

She could be a puppy broker... and not an actual breeder. That's what she sounds like to me. Not having pictures or the knowledge of what she's breeding and being evasive SCREAMS puppy broker.

Just my opinion though.
