We've had our 2 and a half year old pom since November. He was housebroken when we got him and we've never had too much of a problem. In fact, he was really quick about getting outside, doing his business, and coming right back in. However, the last several weeks, something has changed.

We live in a condo with certain places for taking your dog out. However, the last few weeks, he's been refusing to "go" there. He'll pee, but nothing more. You can walk him around that area for 20 minutes, several times I might add, and he won't do anything. He just stands around or stares at you and acts like he's ready to go back in. He doesn't squat or act like he's having difficultly or even that he needs to go at all. Then, we come in the house and within 20 minutes he's pooped on the floor. This is driving us crazy. The past 3 days he's pooped on the floor RIGHT after being taken out and refusing to go. I don't understand what is causing this.

He is taken outside about every 4 hours when we're home, first thing when we get home from work, wake up or go to bed also. He never has accidents in his crate. What is up with this dog? XD

I think you need to make your walks longer. You can also try taking him out to pee, bringing him back in, and then bringing him out to poop a while later.

Bonjour,

I'm a big fan of positive reinforcement. That's how I trained my dogs. As the previous poster mentionned I would make my walk a bit longer until the dog poops. Once done I would give it a treat and be all over it (Caressing it and be excitted). Do this a couple of times and it should be ok. Also, when the dog poops in the house I wouldn't put too much attention to him except if you catch him in the act. If you do catch him in the act just growl at it (big voice) and try to get it outside to finish the job.

Just mon 2 cennes... :p
