I was just out driving picking up my little sister and I somehow managed to run a red light....terribly....by like 2-3 seconds after. :(

I do not know what I was doing at the time to cause me to run a red light that badly. my question is, am I going to be expecting a ticket in the mail? there was one of those white cameras above the street light
but I am not sure if it is a red light camera. I have been getting mixed responses to this question.

Has anybody ever ran a red light with these camera? did they send home a ticket? If they did then did the picture show the driver also? and how much was the fine (points, anything on record?, or just pay it and its over)?
I am going crazy with this question because I was driving my sister's car so I don't want her to get any points or anything.

I have never gotten one but my friend did (this is in NC) but it wasnt a pic of the driver just a pic of the back of the car and the license plate (thats how they knew who to send it too)

I just heard on the radio that they were ruling the red light cameras here as unconstitutional, for the very reason you just mentioned, it's not the car that commits the moving violation, it's the driver. Automatically sending the ticket to the owner of the car, when it might not be them driving, was ruled as unlawful search and seizure, therefore being unconstitutional.

Not sure if this applies where you are, but I thought it was a valid point.

I had my picture taken twice by these. Once I was driving a truck that was loaded with water and would have been an accident if I didnt run the yellow that turned red just as I entered the intersection. They could not identify the driver because I had a hand flying the finger in front of my face. There was some speculation that I was digging for gold, but I got that cleared up. There was a flash, it wasnt this type of camera. The other time I was speeding and a roadside camera got me and we got the photo in the mail. Karen called in and said that it wasnt her driving, and the vehicle was registered to her. They dropped it instantly. That was when camera fascism was new to the US and I probably wouldnt slip through the cracks if it happened now.

A camera doesn't lie ..... you have to go with the flow . I've had to go on a late yellow as I would have been hit by a tail gaiter . Yellow means to slow down and stop .... anymore it means gun it !

My roomie has recieved a few tickets in the mail due to these cameras. The pic was just of the tail end of the car...but she said she usually sees a flash in the rear view. Hopefully it was having technical difficulties at the time when you ran it...or maybe you will just have to learn a lesson the hard way, the way I always have to :(

These lie all the time ;) Around here we have a major problem with people getting stuck in intersections, a red light camera may get them. Blocking the intersection and running the light is however a very different offense.

A couple of studies have also shown rear end collisions going up so much that it totally outweighs most of the accidents (t-bone when one car is just starting to accelerate through)than it would prevent.
