red is a difficult wall colour and can sometimes be too overpowering (its also an energetic colour and in a bedroom you want more of a calming colour.) but red is also my favorite colour and i too am planning a red room.
heres how im going to do it without it being too overpowering.
Pick 1 wall to do your real red, this will be your focus wall, paint it with a pink or red tinged primer first (red is notorious for not going on evenly and needs about 4 coats without primer) the rest of your walls to a nice softer colour, red and white look stunning together (and would work well with black furniture) a soft orange yellow works well because there next to eachother on the colourwheel, and green provides a bold contrasting colour. (i personally like whites/creams and golden yellow/oranges)
if you want to do an ALL red room, i dont suggest doing it in a smallish room, the walls WILL close in on you!, id also even though you want to do red and black stick to white ceiling and white trim. to keep the room from feeling claustrophobic.
ill take a look and see if i can find somepictures of what im planning on doing.
