I have been told (I honestly don't know) that I should not have my Cocker Spaniel coat cut with a razor but it should be stripped because a razor will cause a coat to get kinky. Well I tried to search the internet for information on stripping and you can guess what type of thing I was finding.

Can anyone give me some info? Also, how do you pick a groomer? Penny has only been to the groomers once at PetSmart because she is afraid of new things....except toys. Somehow she can recognize that when I have a new dog toy in hand, that it is for her and that it won't hurt her. Sign, just like a kid.

If your cocker is only pet quality, your best bet woudl just be to use the clippers. Stripping takes a long time. Clipping is just easier and faster.

I thought that only the terrier breeds were stripped to keep their coat wirey, clipping makes a terrier coat grow back a little softer????

Setters and spaniels have their body stripped, leaving the feathering.

Stripping isn't as hard as it sounds. It is time intensive though. Your best bet for information on how to strip and to get stripping supplies is to go through a wholesale supply company like Cherrybrook or JB Wholesalers for a book and the tools :)

It does result in a very nice looking groom.

I have already purchased a stripper, but am too chicken to use it because the instructions said that if it is improperly used it could damage the skin and I do NOT want to hurt my dog, I would feel terrible, so I wasted my money again.

Since Penny is such a chicken and I think that to show a dog it has to be intact? I would never show Penny. Poor sweety would probably dig a hole and cover herself up, she would be so scared. I guess I will just try and find a decent groomer, who has time to spend with a scared dog.
