Hey, it occurred to me, since I have had to supplement my large litters and know others who have orphans that need total care...I and many others make our own formula for the puppies. Everyone's is a bit different. Mine is canned goats milk, whey protein powder, plain yogurt and a bit o' karo syrup.

Now, none of that is the same as "real" bitches milk, no matter the formula.

My question is...what would you raw feeders do in an instance where your puppies could not nurse for their nutrition, in whole or in part?

Sometimes I think too much, but I am looking forward to hearing what your ideas/thoughts are.

My guess is the formula base would be, if possible, fresh goats milk?

When Bailey (Great Dane) had 11 puppies I used fresh goats milk to help her ease the burden of nursing. All of the puppies took turns with the goats milk, one or two feedings worth a day. This was for the first couple of weeks, after that they were primarily on solid food after that because Bailey wouldn't nurse them that long since they were already so big by the 4th week of age.

I don't know much about it but i do know that if all possible, finding a colostrum supplement (usually a powder) would be very helpful if they don't get to nurse at all. It'll help boost the immunities.
