Has anyone heard of dogs being fed this way? I feed every day, but someone I ran into at the dog park says she feeds every other day, because it's closer to the way dogs would naturally eat.
I have to say, her dogs looked fantastastic and seemed perfectly happy, but should they really spend 50% of their time fasting? Or am I projecting a humans nutritional needs on a dog?
I occasionally fast Argon for a day, but not very often.

I dont see how it would hurt them, but I would just feel bad. Sometimes I don't feed sadie a meal, but that usually not by choice and she's never been effected by it.

Most reading I've done about fasting recommends it about once a week, every other day seems extreme...

I fast Sierra when she seems to have an upset tummy (which is rare) or when I remember to (I aim for once every few weeks), or if I don't have anything thawed (LOL).

There are those that take prey model to the extreme (or maybe most literal) sense and feed assuming that in the wild a dog wouldn't eat every day, so they gorge then fast.

We fast our dogs once a week or two. We give them a HUGE meal beforehand, like 2-3 times their normal ration to subside them til their next meal. I know people who feed only once every 4-5 days which really does take feeding raw to the extreme. I don't think I would ever feed this way.

Dear God, if I tried to tell Argon he could only eat every four days, I would probably wake up and find him nibbling on me instead! I don't want to switch them over to every other day, but I wasn't sure if it was safe or not.

I know people that feed at random times but often only 3 or 4 times a week. The important thing is that they get about the right amount of food per week. I don't feed this way but if I did, I would get into it gradually so your dog's stomach gets used to having large amounts of food in it at once. If you change over gradually, there is no worry about stomach upset or bloat. All of a sudden feeding your dog two days worth of food at once might cause a little digestive upset.
