I know this is a dumb question, but it's okay to feed raw boneless, skinless chicken breast to my dogs right? This would just be added to their normal regimen and not their sole diet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's best to balance out bone and meat. I think Mordy said that one time -- something like the calcium in the bone balances out the phosphorus in the meat...
I feed raw chicken with bones to my two, and they absolutley love it!! Someday hopefully we will go completley on a raw diet for them, but I just don't have enough time in the day right now to make the switch!
I'd be happier if it was bone in/skin on than boneless skinless. As long as it's not making up mor than a treat portion of their diets it shouldn't offset any balance too much.
Thanks for the great information everyone. It would just be a treat and I would only be feeding boneless, skinless breasts because that is what we always have on hand. I think I will stick to the Nature's Variety Raw frozen diets for now...
I already avoid feeding my pet labrador raw beef and chicken starting from the time that he suffered from diarhea..I was a little bit scared during those time when my dog vomitted so badly..
I thought it was bad to give chicken with bones in because I've always heard that chicken bones are so small that the dog will swallow them whole and choke... basically the same reason people shouldn't eat chicken bones. Is this just a myth?
the problem with chicken bones is when there cooked they splinter. as part of a raw diet the bones being fed are usually not small enough for swallow whole especially when part of the whole peice (meat and bone) ie my chis occasionally get raw chicken wings (they are not on a raw diet as they wouldnt switch because thier picky and slightly spoilt) but i would never feed somehting as large as a full grown dane chicken wings because theyd be too small and likely swallowed whole. larger dogs should be fed larger portions to avoid the whole swallow whole thing.
our dogs eat chicken lots. just not cooked. because cooked chicken bones can splinter and cut their throats. or they can mash easily into a paste that blocks their intestines
