I have a couple of raw chicken questions.... first ...HOW do I feed them this without getting slime everywhere? I gave them some legs out on the deck in a pan,but they insist on dragging them all over...eww.... do I just have to spray and clean the whole deck every day after they're done? (not my favorite option)
And....2 dogs (we have 3) have an appt. for a tooth cleaning-in a couple of weeks(wicked breath, grungy teeth)
I'm trying the chicken legs in the hopes it'll *help* their teeth in the meanwhile(we just rescued a small dog with BAD breath)
Is it merely for tooth maintenance,or will it help to clean also?
any advice appreciated!

When I feed my dog raw it was either in her crate where I can easily clean afterwards, on top of her grooming table (was trained not to jump off) or, when I had a yard in the states, in the grass the farthest from the house in an ex-pen. Several people have taught their dogs to eat on "their" blanket only as well.. I doubt that would stick in my dog's head though :lol-sign:

As far as helping to clean teeth, I noticed a dramatic difference (started getting plaque, I scraped weekly, now I don't have to do it at all and they are pearly white).

I trained my dog to eat on a towel. It's to the point where if I give him meat, he will carry it around until he finds something towel-like to eat it on.
It was easy to train.. I just watched him eat (on a towel) and every time he went off, I'd say "On the towel" and put the meat back on the towel.

Chicken has little tooth cleaning effects on my dog. It could just be him, but he needs huge pieces of meat to get the tooth cleaning benefits of raw. The kind he has to chew, rip, gnaw, pull and tear at to get the food. He'll crunch through chicken like it's a carrot.

Chicken necks and wing pieces helped miss picky. Lately she's suddenly begun to eat raw after 2 years of refusing. She's learned to chew finally..

2 weeks worth and I've seen a huge difference. I was scraping near weekly for a while.

hmmm.thanks for the input- the food won't fit in the crates- they're little, just big enough to sleep and hang out in.....
I put bigger dog out in the grass--so I guess I'm not the only one who worried about the gooey mess.... I should just do a tie out for them while they eat.....
Thanks- I'll try again tomorrow out in the yard

LOL and I won't feed shank bones.. not to fond of broken teeth (learned that one the hard way)

Mine eat in their crates, and there is not a lot of room. But grass is a great option.

Out in the yard for my crew unless it's raining hard. Then it's the crates for Daisy, Bruzer and Buzz, and Gunnar goes in the garage since he doesn't have a crate inside.

I'm like Dan. I just toss a piece out in the yard. If it's raining, I give my dogs a meal of ground meat mixed with yogurt and/or veggies. It's easy for them to eat neatly out of a bowl.
