This is the story of my boy ralph.
when i was 12 my dad came home with a ratty looking thing. turned out his friend who bred them had to get the pups homes asap at only 3 weeks old due to the ill health of the mother.
so he was given to me. i was struggling at school with bullying and having no friends and ralph was my friend. he slept in my bed and i bottle fed him every couple of hours. i wouldnt let anyone else do it.
we grew up together and whenever i had a bad day id come home and take ralph out for a long walk, often stopping to tell him why worries. he was there for my first boyfriend, first broken heart and first kiss!
he cared as much for me as i did for him. when he was 3 my dad bought a little female to breed ralph as he was the typical old fashioned rotty that wasnt seen much any more. roxy had a litter of 9 pups although one died. we brought ralph in to meet his kids and he jumped and hid from them, imagine a rotty scared of his own pups.
when i met serge he was a bit scared of ralph but we showed him! and soon he was hooked. we bought our own house and ralph had his own bedroom!
when i found out i was pregnant i was a bit scared, i was only 21 and wasnt working. but i grew to be happy about it, i couldnt wait to show ralph my baby and for her to grow up with ralph.by this time his back legs were starting to stiffen a bit. at 8 months pregnant ralph started to limp on his front leg, we put it down to having the extra weight from his back legs being stiff. one day i was giving him a hug and i felt a lump on his shoulder, it felt like he had dislocated his shoulder, took him in for an xray to see and left them to it.
i got the call in less than an hour, they said it was cancer, that the x rays showd it had spread a lot and there wasnt anything t be done. i couldnt go my parents were telling me no you cant risk the baby, but ralph IS my baby! so grudgingly and because he was already under for the x ray he was pts alone. a arranged for his cremation and he now sits on my shelf at home.
