Do many people here do this? I met with a dog trainer today and got to watch her work with some students and one of her own dogs on Rally Obedience. She worked with me and Lucy a bit and we are going to be taking lessons from her! We are going to do some more general obedience work with her first to get everything down pat, and then we are going to start taking rally classes. I am so excited! It looks like so much fun and such a great way to bond with your dog!

We do Rally. We do APDT, not AKC (I have mixed breed dogs) I would HIGHLY recommend it. It is a lot of fun, you will learn a lot and build a great relationship with your dog, plus its not too hard to get to a level where you can go out and compete. The APDT venues are very friendly and encouraging- and the judges impart a few good words of advice to you almost every run
There is a good Yahoo group that talks about Rally (I think its Rally O All Dogs). Many judges are members and are happy to answer questions on line too.
Good luck- hope you do the class and get into the sport!

Brandy and I do CARO rally. It is a fun sport to get into. Hopefully we're going to be working on our advanced Q's this fall. It's a great way to bond, and the dogs seem to really enjoy it as it's a little more laid back that regular obedience.
I highly recommend trying it out, good luck! :)

~Real Dekka here...
Dekka and Kaiden got their novice title at a trial this winter. Dekka is entered next weekend. I personally prefer obedience and so do my dogs (but I think that is because I like it better) but rally is still a fun thing to do.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am so excited to get started :) I would have to do the CARO rally because my dog is a mixed breed too. We start our general obedience lessons with that trainer next week!

I do rally with my group - they all love it! I do AKC and WWKC (when trials are available). I'll be happy when/if UKC gets their program going. It really is a fun, relaxed sport to compete in with your dogs that doesn't require high levels of training.

i do rally with both of my dogs. luce has two legs toward her AKC novice title and i just sent in paperwork to sign mushroom up for his first trial (not til november). it's fun. i like that it's not so rigid as traditional obedience.
