When I walk my cockerspaniel when he sees a bird he goes after it? When hes in the house and i let my bird out he doesnt do nothing? Why is this? Is he just curious about the birds outside or is it related to the bird being mine.

I know he growled at the bird when he landed on my head and went to sleep. But he just acts like a total fool when he sees a bird outside.

Cocker spaniels were originally bred to hunt woodcock... It's completely natural for the breed, and actually some breed fanciers are looking for cocker's that show some drive because some of the BYBs, strictly show, or pet ACS aren't showing those instincts anymore :(

The bird in your house is probably a different story... he can probably tell by the way you act that the bird is not 'prey' as it is in your house and landing on your head  I would not ever let a situation arise where the dog is alone with the bird that is not safely enclosed.

If it is a problem, again try teaching the "Leave it" command :)
I love to watch my own cocker flush birds when we go on our hikes in various places. By my command she knows when its okay to chase, and when she needs to ignore them ;)

My male Cocker Spaniel comes from working and showing lines so I have been told. He is always going after birds. Like Brattina said its instincts in some.

And I also agree he takes notice that your pet bird is a pet by the way you treat it. I would always be careful when the two are together though.
