Are you saying she hasn't ate anything in 4 days at all? Or She just refuses to eat her dry food?

More details would be needed. Thanks!

How old, what breed, etc....

She will eat raw hide treats but just one or two and then if you try and give her dog biscuits she may eat one and then dig the rest in the ground or just set it down and leave it alone. She is about 4 or 5 years old, and I don't know what kind of dog she is. She was given to my family when we moved into a house. She has a long body, like a daschund, but much bigger than one, with short legs and a head that resembles a lab. I'm really worried she may continue this habit, and face sickness.

Is it possible that she's getting food somewhere else?

How often is she being fed? Any change in her diet?

How long do you leave the food down for?

The only person that feeds her is me or my brother, and he hasn't been around for awhile. Well we feed her around 3 or 4 in the afternoon so she can maybe work up an appetite, but she doesn't. Recently she was given a different brand of dog food then today we went out and bought her kibbles and bits and she still wouldn't eat. Usually we leave the food down for about 30 minutes and we go back outside her bowl is turned over, and i have witness that she does it herself and sometimes it's the chain's fault.

I would check with your vet. maybe you're feeding her too much . get a Good dry dog food and feed her at a regular time. Add raw meat or canned to it and moisten ... take up after 20 minutes and don't give treats. Maybe Mordy can help here.

she hasn't eaten in 4 days, there is no way that if i give her 2 cups of food it's too much. I thought that raw meat was bad for dogs. the first time I gave her canned food and mixed it with her dry food she licked the gravy stuff off of it, but not much and didn't touch her dry food. Then I did it again and she didn't even eat that.

for about 4 years, no she would usually eat once you put her food down, why don't you like rawhides? they seem pretty regular compared to her usuals.

Sometimes a dog will swallow a piece of the rawhide which can get caught in it's system. It's really not a good thing for them to have.

Since you've had her for 4 years now and all of a sudden she doesn't want to eat her regular food, I would make an appointment with the vet to rule out any health issues.

My thoughts are:

1. **** VET
2. better food, better feeding schedule.
3. no rawhides

let us know what the vet says

I would be looking for the more obvious. If the dog is no longer wanting what's put in front of it then the food is obviously lacking something that the dog is looking for but can't find. Not uncommon because the nutritional requirements in the food provided aren't there and the dog knows it. Always pay attention to the dog, because the dog is always right.

Shab... I'm glad you joined and posted , but I do think there's more involved here than a dog suddenly deciding he wants better food.
