Bichon lover...I am not trying to scare you, but I am trying to introduce a small amount of something called reality. Six years old is one year away from senior citizenship for dogs and it is very old for a bitch to have a litter, let alone her first! I hate to break it to you, but I worked in a vet clinic for 5 years and c-sections are a very common practice for some bitches that can't deliver on their own. There is no way to know if she is going to have a speedy natural delivery or need an emergency c-section to deliver the pups at this point. I hope it's easy for her though. You need to understand that the members of this forum take dogs and breeding very seriously. We all care very much about the lives of all dogs and their situations. So, if we seem very nosey or judgmental that's not really how we mean it, we are just concerned for the welfare of you dog and her future puppies. With all the dogs waiting in shelters on death row, it saddens some of us when we hear of another accident litter. :(

yup not bright breen but dark their usually dead or very deformed
Also
NEVER EXPECT YOUR DOG TO DELIVER A LITTER BY HERSELF.
Although animal whelping is a 'natural event' this does not mean that the animal does not get into serious trouble if left unattended.
Mother and puppies frequently die because the owner thoughtlessly left her alone during this crucial time

ok I think we have all scared this poor woman to death. I know how hard it is when you have a unplanned preg. and then tryiing to figure out what to do. Putting up signs is a great idea, or even advertise in your local newspaper. I would definately have an ultrasound done. When I was breeding my peks I had to have one done because we were not sure on the date of conception. The bitches are preg. for roughly 9 weeks. I was glad I did because she was preg with 6 pups and we ended up having a c-sect. done. After all is said and done, just take a deep breath and get everything ready for the birth. Keep her in a quiet place when it is getting close to time and just be there because there is a good chance that you may have to help deliver them. Keep your chin up... At least you were trying to get her fixed. Thats good on your part.

I wish I could put in more comments as this really bothers me !!!! I'm leaving tomorrow and won't be back here until Sept. 5th. How can this be an accidental litter with another pitt ??? You have left something out !!! Was this with a littermate or mother or father ?? I wish you had looked into stopping the pregnancy ....it's sad to do , but better than bringing poorly bred pups into the world.

The more I read the crosser I am getting Grrr, sorry but you here this so much and i dont think you are listing to whats being said! Why dont you tell us all your plans? Such as what do you have ready so far, do you know what signs to look for when labour starts? Do you know when to call the vet? What about cord cutting etc do you know how to do this do you have the tools needed? Are you giving her a puppy food? How do you help a stuck pup? I could go on forever!

Are you going to keep all of the pups? If not, what age will they be seperated from the mom?

I think now iits like closing the barn door after the horse has bolted, although we all have thoughts regarding unplanned litters, its too late now to change the fact that this litter is on its way, it would now be prudent to give constructive advice, so that this litter comes into the world healthy and try to minimise the risks to the mother, and hope that the message that unplanned litters can be avoided by spaying and neutering in future.
